More than half a century ago, two talented, creative individuals with a powerful drive to make things better began a construction company.

New Zealand born, Malcolm McConnell and Jim Dowell were engineers with a pioneering spirit and a willingness to tackle even the most challenging of projects.

From their small-office base in 1961, following a number of successful infrastructure builds at home, the pair quickly took McConnell Dowell to Australia, Asia and the Middle East. Today, customers continue to come to McConnell Dowell, with complex projects that require unique solutions.

Over decades we have built thousands of iconic, landmark assets and facilities for customers and communities. Our expertise spans building, civil, fabrication, marine, mechanical, pipelines, rail and tunnel & underground construction.

With more than 3,500 employees across the globe our customers benefit from our mix of local knowledge and international experience.

OWNERSHIP

The McConnell Dowell Group is 100 per cent owned by Aveng Limited, a company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) in South Africa.

Without a controlling shareholder, Aveng is broadly held by the public as well as a number of institutional shareowners, with approximately 30 per cent owned by international investors.

Aveng boasts a proud South African heritage going back more than 100 years. The company has forged a solid reputation for infrastructure construction and development, including many landmark roads, bridges, dams, buildings and power stations in many developing economies.
