Drilling Technician assist in the designing, testing and planning of each drilling project. To assist Drilling engineers and work with other mining professionals and oversee the drilling progress and safety of the site.
1. To provide engineering and planning of drilling engineering.
2. To provide daily operational support during the operation.
3. To supervise, plan, prepare, and design wells as well as providing drilling / operations technical
support for the operations.
4. To ensure that reports submitted from the worksheet are correct and complete by reviewing
the data prior to submission.
5. To provide on the spot decision to any technical problems encountered by conducting risk
assessment and providing corrective actions.
6. To ensure optimal operations performance by constantly evaluating, analyzing and
recommending good practices and procedures.
7. To ensure drilling equipment provided is rated as per the specifications by witnessing
acceptance and other load/pressure test and with proper record and practices.
8. To prepare equipment checklist for rig mob/demob, load out sequence, casing and pipe
tallies, calculate cement/mud volume requirement and monitor directional drilling survey
data.
9. To identify and follow up on equipment requiring servicing, inspection and or repairs by
monitoring equipment failure records and update maintenance schedules.
10. Supervise overall logistics to ensure all required drilling equipment/materials will be made
available in time for pre check prior to utilization.
11. Liaise directly with drilling and 3rd party contractors for the required drilling
equipment/materials.
12. Ensure operational compliance to HSE.
13. Coaching and training of junior engineers.
EXPERIENCE
a) Minimum 12years’ experience in well engineering/operations of oil and gas industry including minimum 10years’ experience in offshore drilling operations and minimum 5 years’ experience as Senior Drilling Engineer in offshore environment.
b) Candidate experienced working with established operator with good performance report. Experience working with PETRONAS will be an advantage.
Plan, lead and supervise all aspects of drilling engineering works for successful, cost effective and safe implementation of COMPANY wells in Malaysia. Participate in training and development of up skilling of junior drilling engineers. Provide continuous engineering advice to the overall operations to the Project Team(s) to ensure that quality, safety standards and procedures are met.
a) Lead in conducting full well design and planning for wells assigned by COMPANY
b) Lead in preparing well program and obtain appropriate approval as per COMPANY Drilling Workflow process
c) Strategize, plan and schedule preparation to ensure all activities are operated in safe and cost-effective manner.
d) Coach and train drilling engineers assigned to the project team to enable accelerated learning for the engineers
e) Improve drilling efficiency through the application of the state-of-the-art technology in all facets of the operations.
f) Reduce NPT and operations cost by identifying problem areas, analyze NPT trends and recommend remedial action.
g) Review, analyze and modify base requirement for the scope of work and technical specifications for the tender packages to be in line with project requirement and meeting the minimum cost and HSE requirement.
h) Ensure compliance to COMPANY’s safety requirement and standards by coordinating and performing on site rig inspections, acceptance test on contracted drilling rigs and 3rdparty equipment, materials, and supplies.
i) Improve drilling efficiency by conducting and implementing innovative studies and lessons learnt.
j) To prepare Final Well Report and conduct After Action Review after end of well
k) The incumbent has these competencies and the minimum levels required to perform the job

• To ensure a proper risk assessment, proper isolation under the permit to work system, job safety analysis (JSA) and toolbox talk is carried out prior to commencing any maintenance activity. Should any part of the job change, then the risk assessment must be re-visited prior to completing the task.
• To liaise daily with department heads regarding maintenance / classwork / repairs to ensure that access to equipment requiring maintenance is coordinated with the drilling operation in order to facilitate an uninterrupted drilling program and to deliver the maintenance compliance targets.
• Chain maintenance pre-shift meetings & discuss any safety alerts / incidents received that day.
• Discuss planned work daily & any changes to planned work with maintenance team.
• Update maintenance team with any new procedures & operational information.
• Liaise with OIM/Barge Master to plan for fabric maintenance of the rig to maintain corrosion protection.
• Deliver a forward maintenance plan and detailed handover to your relief to facilitate a seamless transition on crew change.
• To ensure that the company avoids legal liabilities, which could result from non-observance of the responsibilities, placed on it. (Within the scope of current Malaysian Legislation {OSHA Act 1994 (Act 514) regulations and orders}.
• To ensure that a quality health safety & environment (QHSE) system is established, implemented and maintained in accordance with the requirements of ISO Standards (ISO 9001/ OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001).
• To prepare, review and control the issue of QHSE procedures as necessary and to revise and maintain the company QHSE Management System at worksite.
• To monitor through company’s offshore worksites, that the company’s policies and procedures are being satisfactorily observed.
• To carry out audits from time to time (including offshore sites by agreement with management).
• To check that personnel have had adequate on or off the job training to carry out their work in accordance with company standards.
• Having Experience in piling, crane operation, deck machinery, winches, 4-point mooring systems, spud systems, dredging, rock-laying for breakwaters.
• Have a working knowledge of knots, splices, wire line sling handling and general rigging practices as per HSE compliances.
• Having experience and knowledge about Occupational offshore HSE.
• Excellent technical knowledge in drilling equipment.
• Excellent knowledge of rig emergency signals and procedures.
• Have a thorough knowledge of hand signals and safe working procedures for equipment handling.
• Perform assigned duties in a safe efficient manner in accordance with Company Policy and good rig husbandry.
• Able to work under pressure & by shift.
• To co-ordinate activity with other members of the Company in a mutually helpful way.
• Strictly adhere to the principle of trust, integrity and confidentiality.
• Perform any other tasks assigned related to the job from time to time.
