The Operational Technology Engineer 1 is responsible for supporting the design, deployment, and ongoing operation of OT and digital manufacturing solutions within the shopfloor environment. The role focuses on hands-on execution, system support, and ensuring reliable and compliant system performance, while working closely with senior engineers and cross-functional stakeholders.
This position contributes to improving operational efficiency, quality, and data visibility by delivering stable and value-driven digital solutions. It also serves as a foundational role, building technical expertise in OT systems, system integration, and regulated manufacturing environments, while maintaining day-to-day operational stability.
What will you be doing?
- The role focuses on configuring, deploying, and supporting Operational Technology (OT) and digital manufacturing solutions to ensure reliable and efficient shopfloor operations. This includes system setup, customization, testing, and rollout activities aligned with defined architectures and standards. The role also supports small to medium OT initiatives by executing tasks across the project lifecycle, ensuring timely and quality delivery in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- In addition, the role provides ongoing support for live OT systems, including troubleshooting, issue resolution, and root cause analysis to minimize downtime. It assists with system integrations between shopfloor and enterprise platforms while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives based on operational feedback, ensuring stable and optimized system performance.
- The role also supports Computer System Validation (CSV), documentation, and governance activities by following established compliance, cybersecurity, and validation requirements. In parallel, it ensures adherence to HSE, sustainability, and energy policies by maintaining a safe working environment, preventing incidents, and promoting continuous improvement in safety and environmental practices.
What will you need to be successful?
- The role is based in Batu Kawan, Penang and is suitable for candidates currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. While prior internship or part-time experience is preferred, it is not mandatory. Candidates with basic programming knowledge, web development exposure, and familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Power Platform tools will have an added advantage.
- The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong analytical thinking, along with excellent communication and collaboration skills. They should be adaptable, quick to learn, and comfortable working in a team environment. This role does not require significant physical demands and involves minimal travel (less than 10%), making it well-suited for students seeking practical industry exposure.
