The Role

1.     Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver engaging, creative and ambitious learning experiences that meet the needs of all children.
  • Create and maintain an effective, safe and inspiring learning environment.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive and stimulating classroom culture that promotes curiosity, independence, resilience and wellbeing.
  • Plan and deliver a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum in line with agreed year group and school expectations.
  • Adapt teaching and learning to meet the diverse needs, strengths and interests of all children, ensuring appropriate support, challenge and opportunities for success.
  • Use a range of effective teaching approaches, including play-based, inquiry-led and active learning, where appropriate.
  • Promote high standards of achievement, behaviour, wellbeing and engagement.
  • Follow the School's policies and procedures relating to behaviour management, daily routines, duties, home learning, absence and outdoor education, as outlined in the Staff Handbook.

2.     Assessment and Progress

  • Monitor, assess and evaluate children's learning accurately and effectively.
  • Use assessment information to inform planning, intervention and next steps in learning.
  • Maintain accurate records of attainment, achievement, progress andwellbeing.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and communicate children's progresseffectively with parents in accordance with school expectations.

3.     Pastoral Care, Inclusion and Safeguarding

  • Build positive, respectful and supportive relationships with children,colleagues and parents.
  • Promote children's personal, social and emotional development through daily interactions and planned learning experiences.
  • Support children's wellbeing, confidence, independence and self-regulation.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns promptly to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Work closely with Learning Support, Enhanced Provision, pastoral teams and external agencies to ensure children receive the support they need to thrive.
  • Champion inclusion, diversity, equity and belonging, ensuring every child feels valued and supported.

4.     Collaboration and Community

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, specialist teachers, Teaching and Learning Assistants, Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistants and support staff to enhance outcomes for all children.
  • Build strong partnerships with parents through effective communication and engagement.
  • Participate positively in year group planning, curriculum development and wider school initiatives.
  • Contribute to school events, educational visits and wider community activities.
  • Fulfil supervision duties and contribute actively to the school's co-curricular programme through CCA commitments.
  • Communicate professionally, respectfully and collaboratively with colleagues, parents and all members of the Tanglin community in accordance with the expectations outlined in the Staff Handbook.

5.     Professional Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional learning and improvement.
  • Participate actively in the Clear Review process and maintain an accurate and up-to-date record of professional learning and development.
  • Engage in coaching, peer observation and reflective practice, making effective use of allocated professional learning time to observe colleagues and continually enhance teaching and learning.
  • Support colleagues in developing their professional practice, including contributing to professional review processes in line with the school's framework.
  • Uphold the values, policies and ethos of the school at all times.

Person Specification

Essential   

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching in Early Years and/or Years 1 & 2.
  • Strong understanding of child development, particularly within the 3 to 7 age range.
  • Strong knowledge of the UK curriculum and assessment practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive and productive relationships with children, colleagues and parents.
  • Demonstrable commitment to inclusion, wellbeing and the holistic development of every child.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
