What The Role Is
The Public Service Division (PSD) aims to build a first-class Public Service for a successful and vibrant Singapore. We do this through public sector leadership development, capacity and capability building and the promotion of quality services at all levels of the Public Service. We are looking for outstanding candidates with the vision and passion to contribute to help shape Singapore.
ServiceSG aims to transform the service experience for citizens receiving public services. Our ambition is to transform citizen’s experience of public services from one of having to navigate across different functional agencies to get things done, to an integrated, personalised and seamless one where the public service “Knows and Serve you as one, and with Heart”.
We work with different agencies across the public service to integrate over 600 services around key moments of life of citizens. Our central omni-channel service delivery system currently comprises a digital platform (“LifeSG”), a network of physical ServiceSG centres and a central contact centre. We are working to join the dots between the government systems and processes to make citizens’ experience smooth, whether online, on the phone, or at our centres.
The Challenge
You will join the ServiceSG Insights Practice to turn real-world citizen and service data into actionable recommendations to create a more seamless, personalised, and proactive citizen experience with the Government. Working on analytical projects, you will proactively explore data from channels such as appeals, hotlines, service centres and digital services, identify patterns across citizen archetypes’ end-to-end journey, and develop clear recommendations for service, process and policy improvements.
You will have the opportunity to experiment responsibly with AI and large language models in the Government’s ecosystem to cluster, classify and summarise large volumes of unstructured text, while learning approaches to review, apply checks, and validate with other data sources. You will also help to improve existing Python- or SQL-based workflows to transform raw data into reliable, analysis-ready datasets and dashboards. This internship is suited to a curious, self-directed learner who enjoys asking good questions, testing new approaches and building practical solutions—and who wants to strengthen an analytics foundation while gaining early exposure to the skills and disciplines used in data engineering.
What You Will Be Working On
By joining our #PeoplePurposePossibilities internship, you will learn by working on meaningful service challenges and gain hands-on experience in:
- AI-Assisted Service Analytics and Insight Generation
- Explore structured and unstructured data from appeals, hotlines, service centres, feedback and digital channels to answer ad hoc business questions and uncover citizen needs.
- Use statistical methods, text analytics and AI tools to cluster, classify and summarise large datasets, identify emerging themes and generate hypotheses for deeper analysis.
- Learn to design analytical lenses and categories, test model outputs, and apply human review, sampling and triangulation to produce responsible and defensible insights.
- Connect patterns across channels and citizen segments to identify service gaps, repeated effort and opportunities for more seamless and inclusive delivery.
- Data Preparation, Automation and Engineering Foundations
- Support the cleaning, joining and transformation of datasets for analysis.
- Use Python, SQL or similar tools to develop reproducible workflows, automate recurring analytical steps and reduce reliance on manual data preparation.
- Apply practical data-engineering habits such as clear documentation, modular scripts, version control, quality checks and reusable data structures.
- Build an understanding of how reliable data pipelines and analysis-ready datasets support dashboards, analytics and AI use cases at scale.
- Visualisation, Storytelling and Service Impact
- Create dashboards and visualisations that make complex findings easy for non-technical stakeholders to understand and act on.
- Translate analysis into concise narratives, decision-ready presentations and practical recommendations for service, process or policy improvements.
- Work with colleagues and agency partners to refine questions, validate interpretations and understand how analytical evidence informs real-world service transformation.
How You Will Grow: You will be encouraged to take initiative, learn unfamiliar tools quickly, seek feedback and progressively own small analytical workstreams. By the end of the internship, you should have a stronger portfolio of applied analytics work, practical experience using AI responsibly, and a clearer foundation for future development in analytics engineering or data engineering.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for analytical, detail-oriented individuals who are passionate about using data to improve public service delivery. If you share our vision of transforming government services through data-driven insights, we welcome you to join us as a #PPPintern.
An ideal candidate should possess the following:
- [Data Analytics and Visualisation]: Ability to work hands-on with large, cross-channel datasets to derive meaningful insights into citizens’ experiences and needs, and to improve service strategies and operations. This involves setting appropriate parameters to test specific hypotheses and validating findings across multiple datasets. Experience creating dashboards for non-technical colleagues using Tableau or similar tools would be advantageous.
- [Unified Service Channel Monitoring]: Strong understanding of omnichannel service design principles, including the ability to stitch together a customer service journey, assess how appropriate channels contribute to successful completion of the job to be done, and understand the behavioural triggers behind channel switching for different stakeholder profiles. Ability to apply technical methods to track and merge user data from websites, mobile apps, service centres and call logs to generate a unified view of their experience.
- [Exploratory Analysis]: Capable of using modern programming languages (e.g. Python and R), analytical tools (e.g. Tableau), and statistical and AI techniques (e.g. clustering and large language models) to uncover insights and identify areas for deeper analysis. Ability to develop workflows for analytics processes and manage scripts and project materials to facilitate the onboarding of new analysts and prevent loss of work.
- [Working Effectively with Stakeholders]: Able to collaborate with business units to translate business queries into actionable lines of inquiry, conduct research and analysis, and jointly refine insights and recommendations. Comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders to spur action.
- [Thinking Clearly and Making Sound Judgements]: Strong analytical mindset with the ability to synthesise multiple datasets and propose targeted, relevant insights and interventions. Capable of critically evaluating the accuracy and relevance of data sources and maintaining a balanced view when analysing issues and recommending solutions.
- [Creative Thinking and Problem-Solving]: Able to apply innovative approaches to data analysis by identifying novel ways to leverage and visualise existing and new data to improve customer experience outcomes. Skilled in contextualising analytical findings to address business problems and inform service design.
