Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Play a leading role in evaluating and managing tax risks and disputes across GIC's businesses;
  • Monitor changes in tax laws or administrative practice and analyse implications to GIC with effective communication to the relevant internal stakeholders;
  • Maintain constructive relationships with key government authorities, tax advisors and tax departments of peer organizations to stay ahead of legislative changes and play a key role in advancing GIC's interests;
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining and reviewing tax governance initiatives/projects to allow GIC to keep pace with a complex tax environment; 
  • Identify issues/improvements to tax business processes and recommend pragmatic solutions for stronger tax governance oversight on the way GIC conducts its businesses/activities;
  • Engage and collaborate internally within the Tax team and other stakeholders (within and outside the department) to operationalize the relevant tax frameworks, policies and positions;
  • Support in the delivery of tax risk reporting to the Board, management committees, and various internal stakeholders; 
  • Participate in the Tax team's technology initiatives to digitalize business processes and effectively leverage available technology tools to deliver the abovementioned workstreams; and
  • Build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships within the Tax team and across other GIC departments.

 

 What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role

  • At least six years of relevant tax experience, especially in international taxation and dispute management or resolution.
  • Demonstrates strong writing, analytical, and oral presentation skills.
  • Demonstrates an ability to think broadly about tax information, think through problems strategically, assess a variety of factors, and recommend a pragmatic solution.
  • Demonstrates an ability to synthesize complex technical concepts, strategically evaluate options based on tax and other business considerations and explain recommended solution in plain language understood by non-specialist audiences.
  • Can adapt communication styles based upon the audience.
  • Has strong organizational skills, is flexible, and can independently and efficiently progress multiple assignments.
  • Has excellent attention to detail and consistently high levels of accuracy.
  • Strives to innovate and follow best practices but is highly attuned to the need for commercial solutions.
  • Strong end-user computing skills and works well in digitalized environment.
  • Is energized by ideas and novel experiences and will encourage a learning environment.
