Technical Manager / Senior Manager (Workshop Operations)

Location: Meru / Setia Alam / Puncak Alam

Seniority Level: Managerial

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced and driven Technical Manager / Senior Manager to lead end-to-end workshop operations and maintenance performance.

This role is responsible for ensuring high fleet reliability, operational efficiency, cost optimization, and compliance with technical, safety, and regulatory standards.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership experience in workshop operations, preventive maintenance strategy, technical governance, and fleet performance optimization within the automotive or related industry.

Key Responsibilities

Workshop Operations Management

  • Oversee daily workshop operations and maintenance activities
  • Ensure timely execution of preventive and corrective maintenance
  • Manage work order planning, prioritisation, and turnaround time (TAT)
  • Drive high fleet availability while minimising downtime

Technical Governance & Quality Control

  • Establish and enforce technical standards, processes, and SOPs
  • Approve repair methods and major component replacements
  • Ensure quality assurance before vehicle release
  • Conduct technical audits and root cause analysis (RCA)

Workforce Management

  • Lead and manage workshop manpower, including outsourced teams
  • Establish clear reporting structures and role accountability
  • Monitor team productivity and operational output
  • Drive technical training, competency development, and upskilling initiatives

Asset Reliability & Maintenance Strategy

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules
  • Monitor MTBF and breakdown trends
  • Drive fleet uptime and reliability improvement initiatives
  • Manage asset lifecycle planning and major overhaul schedules

Spare Parts & Inventory Management

  • Ensure availability of critical spare parts
  • Manage inventory control, reorder planning, and wastage reduction
  • Monitor parts consumption trends
  • Collaborate with procurement to optimise cost efficiency

Cost Control & Budget Management

  • Monitor maintenance cost per vehicle
  • Track repair and operational expenditure
  • Identify inefficiencies and cost leakages
  • Optimise in-house versus outsourced maintenance strategies

Data, Reporting & KPI Management

  • Track operational KPIs including:
    • Fleet uptime
    • Turnaround Time (TAT)
    • PM compliance
    • Breakdown rates
    • Cost per km / unit
  • Ensure reporting accuracy and data integrity
  • Drive performance-based decision-making
Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Manage third-party vendor performance and SLA compliance
  • Ensure adherence to company expectations and contractual requirements
  • Conduct vendor performance reviews and enforce accountability

Continuous Improvement & Digitalisation

  • Drive operational improvement initiatives
  • Implement digital maintenance tools (e.g. ProAct or equivalent)
  • Optimise workshop workflow, layout, and productivity
  • Lead audit readiness and operational excellence initiatives

Safety, Compliance & 5S

  • Enforce 5S standards across workshop operations
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety protocols and PPE requirements
  • Maintain regulatory compliance with DOSH, JPJ, and internal audit requirements
  • Ensure proper signage, zoning, and workspace organisation

Requirements

Education

  • SPM / Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Automotive Engineering
    • Or related technical discipline
Experience

  • Minimum 8–10 years of relevant experience
  • Prior experience in the automotive industry is highly preferred
  • Experience in truck or trailers maintenance is required
  • Proven leadership experience managing workshop operations and maintenance teams

    • Preventive maintenance
    • Corrective maintenance
    • Breakdown management
    • Fleet reliability optimisation
