This is a full-time on-site role for an MEP Project Engineer, based in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The MEP Project Engineer will manage and coordinate Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems throughout various stages of project delivery for a Tier 4 Data Centre. Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the interface between design, procurement, and site installation. Your primary objective is to ensure all services are delivered within time, cost, quality, and safety requirements, while managing the complex integration of mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Environment, Health & Safety (EHS)
- Safety Compliance: Implement the client's EHS Management System and ensure all services subcontractors comply with project-specific EHS management plans.
- Risk Management: Regularly assess services-related activities for high-risk hazards. Support the preparation of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) for complex MEP tasks, such as HV energization and heavy plant lifting.
- Hierarchy of Control: Foster an understanding of services requirements to ensure compliance with the hierarchy of control, managing permits for high-risk works and conducting daily task observations.
2. Design Coordination & Technical Management
- Interface Management: Manage the technical interface between services and building elements, ensuring seamless coordination between structural, architectural, and MEP disciplines.
- BIM & Shop Drawings: Lead the detailed shop drawing process. Review design documentation for buildability, compliance with the design brief, and identify potential service clashes within the 3D model.
- RFI & Submittals: Manage the close-out of services-related Requests for Information (RFIs) and oversee the approvals process for all technical documentation and material samples.
3. Procurement & Financial Support
- Procurement Strategy: Assist in the services procurement function, including compiling tender packages, preparing detailed scopes of work, and conducting technical analysis of subcontractor bids.
- Commercial Administration: Support the assessment of subcontractor monthly progress claims and variations against actual site progress.
- Cost Forecasting: Provide input into detailed cost forecasting for allocated trade packages and assist in identifying design/delivery risks and opportunities.
4. Construction Planning & Site Productivity
- Programming: Participate in the establishment of the overall delivery program. Develop and manage short-range (3-week look-ahead) programs for services trades.
- Logistics Coordination: Manage the design and installation of temporary services and coordinate with authorities for timely connections (Water, Power, Telecoms, Sewer).
- On-Site Supervision: In conjunction with the Site Supervisor, develop recovery strategies for program delays and manage on-site productivity for all services trades.
5. Quality Assurance & Commissioning Support
- ITP Implementation: Ensure subcontractor Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) are executed correctly, with all nominated hold points verified prior to installation closure.
- Commissioning Integration: Assist in the initiation of the services commissioning plan. Support the Commissioning Manager during CxL1 through CxL5 phases, ensuring all factory and site testing records are captured.
- Handover Documentation: Lead the collection of As-Built drawings, Test Records, and Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals to ensure a "Certainty in Delivery" outcome.
Qualifications
- Technical Background: Minimum 5–8 years in MEP services management, preferably with experience in high-tech industrial or Data Centre environments.
- Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of mechanical (HVAC/Chillers), electrical (HV/LV/UPS), and fire protection systems.
- Safety Training: Possession of a valid EHS Passport and Frontline Leadership training would be highly regarded.
- Software: Proficiency in BIM-related software (Navisworks/Revit), digital management tools (Procore/BIM 360), and project programming software.
- Professionalism: Ability to mentor junior staff and maintain professional relationships with consultants, contractors, and statutory authorities.
