Job Description

Responsibilities

Working hours: Mondays to Fridays - 7 am to 4 pm

Roles & Responsibilities

1. System Support

  • Develop and implement a structured school counselling programme, including systems for needs analysis, early identification, and referral.
  • Advise school management on student mental health trends and counselling strategies relating to students with ASD.
  • Provide consultation and training for staff and parents on mental health, ASD, and first-line support strategies.
  • Collaborate with external professionals and community agencies for further interventions.
  • Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of counselling programmes and student outcomes.

2. Preventive Programme

  • Design and deliver psycho-educational programmes (group and school-wide) on emotional regulation, social skills, and coping strategies.
  • Adapt interventions using structured, visual, and ASD-friendly approaches.
  • Develop and share mental health resources for students, staff, and parents.

3. Responsive Services

  • Provide individual and group counselling for students.
  • Conduct case conferences with staff, parents, and external professionals; carry out home visits where necessary.
  • Manage referrals to external services and provide crisis intervention and follow-up support.
  • Maintain proper case documentation and records.
  • Update school management and Head of Allied Professionals regularly on student progress and risk levels.

Job Holder’s Requirement and Attributes

  • Relevant counselling qualification (Degree or Master’s in Counselling, Psychology, or related field), preferably recognised by the Singapore Association for Counselling.
  • Preferably at least 1 year of relevant working experience.
  • Experience working or volunteering with children or youths; experience with ASD preferred.
  • Passionate about supporting students’ social, emotional, and mental well-being, with strong empathy for those experiencing challenges, including individuals with ASD.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Culturally sensitive and aware of multicultural contexts in Singapore.
  • Resourceful, proactive, and able to work independently.
  • Resilient and able to manage complex and sensitive cases.
