About the Role
Rooftop Energy Tech Sdn Bhd (Rooftop Energy) is hiring an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Engineer to start, run, and grow our O&M function. This is the first seat in a new team. You will own the launch of the offering, win the first customers, run sites for performance, and build the team underneath you over time.
Rooftop Energy is the solar subsidiary of Dynasynergy Group. We deliver Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects for commercial and industrial solar customers, with a growing active EPC business. We also operate RooftopIQ, our Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform for solar proposal automation and asset management. Our work spans EPC delivery, platform development, and the integrated Internet of Things (IoT) devices that connect every site we deliver.
About the Group
Dyna (Dynasynergy Technology Sdn Bhd) was founded in 2002 and provides off-grid, solar-hybrid, and grid-connected power solutions to telecommunications companies, state utilities, and large industrials across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak. Anchor customers include SESB, U Mobile, Maxis, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation, and the Royal Malaysian Navy. Certifications include Suruhanjaya Tenaga Class A, CIDB G7, and ISO 9001:2015.
Rooftop Energy, founded in 2025, is Dyna's solar subsidiary. It runs RooftopIQ, a SaaS platform that automates solar proposals and simplifies asset management.
The combined group has more than 70 staff across Shah Alam (HQ) and Kota Kinabalu.
Role Overview
- First seat in a new O&M team at Rooftop Energy
- Mandate spans three areas: customer acquisition for O&M contracts, day-to-day O&M operations across the portfolio, and building out the function and team
- Productise the Rooftop Energy O&M package: service tiers, scope, response times, contract terms, and pricing
- Own day-to-day performance of every commissioned site, monitored through RooftopIQ
- Reports to the Chief Engineer
- Profit sharing on the O&M business as it scales, on top of base salary
What You Will Do
- Win the first customers
- Convert our existing portfolio of commissioned sites into paying O&M customers, and attach an O&M tail to every new EPC project we close. Pitch the package, scope the contract, negotiate terms, and bring it to signature. Build the playbook for outbound to third-party solar asset owners once the in-house base is contracted.
- Productise the O&M package
- Define and launch Rooftop Energy's O&M offering. Set the service tiers, scope, response times, exclusions, pricing logic, and contract templates. Work with the EPC team so every new project is sold with O&M attached from day one.
- Own performance monitoring
- Set baseline expectations for performance ratio, specific yield, and availability across the portfolio. Monitor sites through RooftopIQ, intervene early when a site drifts, and run root-cause analysis on underperformance. Partner with the platform team to make sure the alerts, dashboards, and customer reports you need actually exist.
- Run maintenance scheduling and execution
- Plan and run preventive maintenance schedules across the portfolio. Diagnose, dispatch, and close out corrective work. Coordinate site visits, subcontractors, parts logistics, and access. Keep maintenance records clean enough to defend warranty claims and underwrite future O&M renewals.
- Coordinate the IoT layer
- Work with the platform and devices teams on the IoT layer deployed on every site, including inverters, gateways, power loggers, and sensors. Make sure hardware in the field is healthy and telemetry is flowing. Feed device-level findings back into product fixes rather than absorbing them into manual workarounds.
- Report to customers and renew contracts
- Produce clean monthly performance and savings reports for site owners. Be the technical face of Rooftop Energy after handover. Build the credibility that converts one-off EPC customers into multi-year O&M contracts.
- Build the team and the function
- Start as a team of one. As the contract base grows, hire and lead the O&M Engineer and one to two O&M Technicians underneath you. Document the function as you build it: checklists, inspection forms, fault libraries, escalation paths, and standard operating procedures.
What We Are Looking For
Must Have
- Two to four years of hands-on engineering experience on grid-connected solar PV systems
- Demonstrated experience designing or commissioning grid-connected PV systems, including sizing, single-line diagrams (SLDs), array layout, and ATAP submissions
- Working knowledge of inverters, string monitoring, protective devices, and TNB grid-connection requirements
- Comfortable diagnosing underperformance from monitoring data, not only from site visits
- Comfortable in front of a customer: scoping work, defending pricing, and closing a contract
- Willingness to travel to commissioned sites across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Labuan as needed
- Strong written and spoken English. Bahasa Malaysia is a plus.
- Hands-on, accountable, and self-managing
Good to Have
- Grid-Connected Photovoltaic (GCPV) certification, or active candidate for one
- Practical exposure to IoT devices in an industrial setting, including gateways, modems, monitoring hardware, basic networking, and cellular or LoRa connectivity
- Chargeman certification (BO/A4 or higher)
- Prior experience scoping or selling a solar O&M offering: service tiers, response times, and contract terms
Who You Are
- You take ownership without being asked. If a site is underperforming, you do not wait for a ticket.
- Equally comfortable on a roof, in a meeting room with a customer, and at a desk reading inverter logs.
- Process-minded but not bureaucratic. You build the standard operating procedures because the work needs them.
- Direct with subcontractors, suppliers, and customers when something is wrong. Polite, but not hesitant.
- You want to build a function and a team, not maintain one someone else built.
Why Join
- First in seat. You define how O&M works at Rooftop Energy: package, process, standards, customers, and team.
- Real assets, real customers. A growing portfolio of commissioned sites and an active EPC pipeline behind it.
- Platform-backed. RooftopIQ gives you a proper monitoring and asset-management platform to work with, not spreadsheets and screenshot dashboards.
- Profit sharing. The role carries a profit share on the O&M business as it scales. Strong execution is rewarded directly.
- Visible scope. Direct line to the Chief Engineer and the Chief Executive Officer. O&M is recognised internally as a strategic revenue stream.
- Path to lead. As the asset base grows, this role grows into the head of the O&M function with an O&M Engineer and one to two technicians underneath.
How to Apply
Send your CV with a short note on the largest portfolio of solar assets you have personally owned the performance of. Tell us your monitoring setup, the worst underperformance issue you caught, and how you fixed it. If you have ever helped scope, sell, or negotiate an O&M contract, tell us what worked and what did not.
