Weshine is hiring for our client (APEX Accounting), based in Australia, for a digital remote role.
Job Summary:
We are looking for a Tax & Business Services Accountant in Malaysia to support an Australian accounting firm across bookkeeping, payroll, BAS/IAS, management reporting, tax return preparation, and general accounting support.
This role is best suited to someone with prior experience in an Australian accounting firm who can take ownership of assigned jobs, follow structured workflows, prepare clean review-ready work, communicate clearly, and proactively identify missing information or issues requiring review. The role will also suit someone who is open to using AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude to improve efficiency and work quality.
You will be working across Australian business hours, based on AEST/AEDT, with some flexibility depending on the agreed arrangement.
Key Responsibilities
Perform ongoing bookkeeping work in Xero
Process payroll using Xero
Prepare basic management reports and monthly management packs
Prepare BAS and IAS from start to review-ready stage
Prepare company, individual, and trust tax returns
Prepare jobs in Xero Practice Manager
Prepare clean workpapers and supporting documentation
Follow SOPs, checklists, and structured workflows
Identify missing information, unusual transactions, and items requiring review
Assist with ad hoc accounting work, including Xero cleanup tasks
Prepare assigned jobs to a clean, review-ready standard for final review by the Australian team
Required Experience
Minimum 2 years’ experience working in an Australian accounting firm environment
Hands-on experience with Xero bookkeeping
Experience with payroll processing in Xero
Experience preparing BAS and IAS
Experience preparing company, individual, and trust tax returns
Experience using Xero Practice Manager
Ability to prepare jobs through to review-ready stage
Strong written English and professional communication skills
Ability to prepare clean, organised, and well-supported workpapers
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions carefully
Highly Preferred Experience
Experience using Karbon
Experience using the ATO Portal
Experience with Microsoft 365, especially SharePoint
Experience preparing management reporting or CFO-style reporting packs
Experience with Xero cleanup and ad hoc accounting jobs
Experience working with structured accounting workflows, SOPs, and checklists
Willingness to use AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude to improve workflow, documentation, and productivity where appropriate.
