Job Description

Responsibilities

Our client is a fast-moving mobile/social game studio building a title designed to be played, shared, and obsessed over. They're hiring a 2D Technical Artist to be the bridge between static art and final animated output — the person who makes sure every asset doesn't just look good, but ships clean, integrates smoothly, and feels great in-engine.

About the Role

You're the one who turns finished illustrations into animation-ready, game-ready assets. You'll prep artwork for the animator, build out cutscene visuals, add the VFX juice that makes everything feel premium, and own the implementation inside Unity. If you've ever opened a messy PSD and quietly fixed it before anyone noticed — this team will love you.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare artwork for animation — layering, cutting, and organising assets cleanly
  • Create cutscene visuals: backgrounds, props, and compositions
  • Add visual effects (VFX) — impacts, trails, and the "juice" that makes interactions feel alive
  • Support the animator with rigging and setup
  • Implement and test assets inside Unity
  • Maintain visual consistency across the entire game

What We're Looking For

  • Strong understanding of drawing for animation (designing assets in separable parts)
  • Experience working within game asset pipelines
  • Ability to polish — effects, lighting, composition
  • Comfortable working inside a game engine; Unity preferred
  • Can handle light animation work when needed

Tools & Skills

  • Proficient in Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Spine and/or After Effects (for prep and light animation)
  • Unity (important)
  • Bonus: Particle systems and shader basics

What Success Looks Like

  • The animator works fast because your files are clean — no fixing messes
  • Every asset looks polished and consistent in-game
  • Your effects make the animations feel a tier more "premium"

Why This Role

This is the role for the artist who lives in the middle — equally comfortable in a sketch file and in a Unity scene. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with the animator and own the pipeline that turns art into product. The work is deeply craft-driven and visibly impacts how the entire game feels.
