Visual Development Artist

Animated Feature

We're looking for a Visual Development Artist, to work on our next Animated Features, remote or in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, beginning March 2021.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Visual Development Artists experiment with the diverse elements of film presentation to create worlds and stories through capturing dramatic story moments, plot thrusts, and moods within Character and/or Environment designs. These artists create the emotional connection to the story's theme using a rich imagination, a strong sense of appeal, color, design, composition, and the versatility to conceptualize visually in a variety of techniques and styles. Visual development artists are skilled in both creating inspiration through their narrative art as well as providing technical art packeting to establish and guide the look of a film through the rest of the pipeline that follows and interacts with the visual development process.

Tools: Photoshop, Traditional fundamentals

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work with the art director and director to visually develop characters, creatures, and props.
- Create rough sketches, fully rendered illustrative pieces, material sheets, model turns, movement sheets, pose sheets, paint overs, color palettes and other visual guides as needed by the development team.
- Research pertinent subject matter to bring believability to the characters and creatures as they exist in the film world.
- Undertake research and initiate information gathering prior to the commencement of a new task to ensure design needs, reference materials, artistic direction and technological considerations are effectively managed to meet defined goals.
- Fully capable of resolving a range of complex artistic development issues for both artists as well as other team members.
- Possess strong time management and prioritisation skills. This entails collaborating with the Production group to coordinate task lists to ensure assignments are progressing as expected according to schedules, milestones and overall project goals.
- Strong traditional fine art skills, training and production experience (illustration, painting, composition, human anatomy / organic forms, color theory, perspective, 2D & 3D design.)
- Highly proficient in the use of Photoshop as well as traditional painting/rendering techniques.
- Understanding of the fundamentals of 3D packages a plus.
- Good communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills

PRIMARY LOCATION

Remote or in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

PREFERRED SKILLS

- Minimum 3 years industry experience or related experience.
- With production experience from Pixar, Disney, Dreamworks a plus (illustration, painting, composition, human anatomy / organic forms, color theory, perspective, 2D & 3D design.)
