Role Overview

We are looking for a Microsoft SQL Server Development DBA with strong expertise in database development, performance optimization, and database architecture. This role involves working closely with development, QA, and production teams to design efficient database solutions, enforce development standards, and ensure database implementations follow Microsoft SQL Server best practices.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in T-SQL development, database design, query performance tuning, and complex stored procedure development, along with the ability to guide developers in building scalable and efficient database solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Database Development & Optimization

• Design, develop, and maintain complex stored procedures, functions, views, and advanced T-SQL scripts.
• Analyze and optimize existing database code to improve query performance and system efficiency.
• Investigate and resolve performance bottlenecks related to queries, indexes, and database design.
• Analyze query execution plans and implement improvements to reduce resource consumption.

Data Modeling & Database Design

• Design and implement database schemas and relational structures based on application requirements.
• Interpret Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD) and translate them into efficient database designs.
• Implement and maintain Primary Keys, Foreign Keys, constraints, and relational integrity rules.
• Ensure proper normalization and logical data modeling practices are followed.

Advanced Database Programming

• Develop and maintain complex stored procedures handling business logic and large datasets.
• Design and implement User Defined Table Types (UDTT) for structured data processing.
• Create reusable database components that support application scalability.

Performance Tuning & Index Management

• Design and maintain efficient indexing strategies to support high-performance applications.
• Analyze database workloads and optimize queries to reduce IO, CPU usage, and locking/blocking issues.
• Continuously review and improve database structures to enhance performance.

Database Standards & Best Practices

• Define and implement database development standards, naming conventions, and coding guidelines.
• Ensure database implementations follow Microsoft SQL Server best practices and architecture recommendations.
• Design and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for database development and operational activities.

Developer Collaboration & Code Review

• Work closely with development teams to guide them on efficient database usage and query writing practices.
• Perform database code reviews for stored procedures, functions, triggers, and scripts to ensure quality and performance.
• Provide recommendations to improve database query efficiency and maintainability.

Database Release & Deployment Management

• Manage and review database schema changes and deployment scripts across Development, UAT, and Production environments.
• Support controlled database release management processes to ensure safe production deployments.
• Maintain database versioning and change tracking.

Master Data & Schema Governance

• Design and implement master/reference tables required by application modules.
• Ensure proper documentation and communication regarding newly introduced master data entities so operational teams clearly understand their purpose and usage.
• Identify gaps in master data management and implement improvements.

Documentation & Knowledge Management

• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for database objects, structures, and operational procedures.
• Document database architecture, development standards, and deployment guidelines for internal teams.
• Ensure database documentation remains updated for future maintenance and knowledge sharing.

Development Environment Support

• Support developers by maintaining stable development database environments.
• Assist with test data setup, environment refreshes, and troubleshooting database-related development issues.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2016 / 2017 / 2019 / 2022)
• Advanced T-SQL programming and query optimization
• Experience writing and troubleshooting complex stored procedures
• Strong understanding of database design, normalization, and relational modeling
• Experience working with User Defined Table Types (UDTT)
• Ability to interpret ER diagrams and implement relational constraints
• Expertise in query performance tuning and execution plan analysis
• Strong knowledge of index design and database performance optimization
• Experience managing database schema deployments and release processes
• Ability to prepare and maintain database technical documentation

Good to Have

• Experience with SSIS or data integration processes
• Knowledge of database CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Exposure to Azure SQL or cloud-based database platforms
• Familiarity with database monitoring and troubleshooting tools

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: RM4,339.69 - RM8,500.00 per month
