Job Description

Responsibilities

Club21 Malaysia is seeking a dynamic and commercially driven Retail Director to lead full P&L accountability, commercial strategy, retail operations, and people leadership across our assigned brands and store network. This is a senior leadership role for a strategic thinker with strong financial acumen and a passion for building high-performing retail teams.



Duties & Responsibilities

General Outline

  • Strategize and implement brand communication needs in keeping with the integrity of the brand and market appeal.
  • Plan and maximize the sales and profit contribution of the brand.
  • Develop annual business plan to reflect brand positioning, negotiate key aspects of the planned performance delivery with the brand.
  • Maximize sell-through by ensuring accurate, timely and commercial sales planning and forecasting.
  • Work collaboratively with the E-Commerce Director to ensure successful achievement of online sales revenue and efficient listing of potential brands.
  • Maintain a strong professional working relationship with mall leasing team so as to better support (new or existing) lease negotiation, expansion and/or pop-up store request.
  • Evaluate stock requirements and ensuring timely replenishment. Ensuring maximum sell-through and controlling aged inventory.
  • Ensure the brand delivers business plan profit through delivery of both volume and cash margin.
  • Maintaining brand profitability by management of full price and mark down sales, levels of mark down activity and terminal stock.
  • Compilation of all reports and statistics related to the performance of the Brand.
  • Managing and maintaining a positive working relationship with the Brand principal.
  • Ensure adherence and compliance to all retail operations procedures.
  • Drive expansion strategy including new store openings, relocations, resizing or closures based on performance analytics and market opportunity.
  • Ensure strong governance over stock loss prevention, shrinkage control and cash handling compliance.
  • Lead workforce planning and manpower optimization in partnership with HR to ensure cost efficiency and productivity.


Planning, Purchasing and Analysis

  • Attend seasonal markets and buy.
  • Place seasonal orders for products per order Brand timeline.
  • Communicate product opportunities to Brand seasonally.
  • Provide AOP (Annual Operating Plan) to Brand Principal (if applicable).
  • Own monthly / quarterly / annual Business Review with Brand Principal.
  • Share product performance and insight with Brand Principal as required in consultation with COO.
  • Evaluate market conditions, competitors’ data and implement appropriate change to maximize sales.


Marketing

  • Plan and implement events calendar for positive brand building through partnership marketing, PR and/or promotional activities in consultation with the Marketing Manager / Marketing Director.
  • Partner with Group Editorial and Creative Design to develop impactful marketing content and initiatives that supports the revenue goals.
  • Ensure all marketing materials are approved by Marketing Manager / Marketing Director and Brand Principal (if applicable).
  • Ensure a copy of all final marketing materials are sent to Brand Principal if requested.


Product and Visual Merchandising

  • Uphold and train product standards at stores.
  • Share store photos with Brand Principal if required.
  • Ensure all stores have necessary VM elements for all products in consultation with Visual Merchandiser.
  • Ensure store layout and ambience is as per Brand guidelines.


Leadership

  • Develop and implement succession planning framework for key retail leadership roles.
  • Drive a high-performance culture through structured performance management, coaching and leadership development.
  • Lead change management initiatives and ensure adoption of new systems, processes and business strategies across retail teams.
  • To improve retail & operations morale leading to positive and dynamic working attitude and environment.
  • To maintain general and acceptable working conditions for retail employees.
  • To support Store to maintain productivity and retail operational standards in areas of: Discipline, work performance, sales.
  • To perform monthly / periodical store visits if managing multiple stores.


Requirements

  • A Degree holder, and/ or with minimum 10 years’ of experience in fashion retail or merchandising background.
  • Minimum 3 years’ of experience in a senior leadership role of similar field.
  • Proven track record in managing retail business with strong understanding of industry trends.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen.
  • An effective negotiator who is articulate and possess exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and embracing change.
  • Excellent people management skills with the capability to motivate, coach, develop and retain talent.
