Spectainer Singapore is looking for a Mechatronics Systems Engineer to join our talented and dynamic team.


The Mechatronics Systems Engineer is responsible for the integration, and continuous improvement of the automation architecture governing Spectainer’s COLLAPSECON Operating Stations (COS).


The role acts as the internal technical expert for COS automation systems. This includes overseeing and delving into the electrical architecture, sensor systems, PLC control logic, and machine sequencing that govern COS operation. Working closely with the engineering team, the ideal candidate should be able to seamlessly integrate these automation systems with the mechanical platform to ensure the machine operates as a coordinated automated system.


To breakdown further, the Mechatronics Systems Engineer for COS should be capable of:


Automation Architecture and System Development

  • Work closely with the manufacturing team and engineering team to build internal expertise on translating the defined mechanical process and machine sequence into automation architecture, electrical layout, control logic, and machine operating states.
  • Insource and maintain the automation architecture governing COS machine operation.
  • Insource and maintain the electrical architecture and layout required to support machine automation, including the arrangement and integration of sensors, control hardware, panels, field devices, and machine interfaces, working with the electrical engineering function on detailed wiring and implementation.
  • Engage with equipment vendors and technical suppliers to identify and select appropriate sensors, PLC platforms, control hardware, and automation components suitable for COS upgrades.
  • Define sensor configurations and signal interfaces used to monitor machine position, alignment, compression states, and operational safety conditions.
  • Design and maintain PLC control logic coordinating machine subsystems including compression systems, alignment mechanisms, container collapse sequences, and bundling operations.
  • Develop and maintain automation programs governing COS machine operation and configure PLC and machine control environments.
  • Develop and maintain the SCADA and machine monitoring environment used to observe machine status, operational states, and system diagnostics.
  • Develop testing plans and validation procedures to verify automation sequences, machine operating states, and system behaviour during development and system testing.
  • Develop diagnostic capabilities within the automation system to identify abnormal machine behaviour, faults, and operational exceptions.


Commissioning and Deployment Support

  • Support the automation aspects of COS machine deployment, including preparation of control systems, electrical systems, sensors, and automation components for packing, shipping, and site installation.
  • Configure and verify automation systems during commissioning, including PLC environments, control parameters, sensor configuration, and machine operating states.
  • Support calibration of sensors, control systems, and automation parameters to ensure the machine operates according to the defined process sequence.
  • Test and validate automated machine sequences during commissioning and operational trials.
  • Diagnose and resolve automation related issues identified during commissioning or early operational use.
  • Monitor machine behaviour during startup and initial operations to ensure stable and reliable machine performance.
  • Capture operational feedback and identify improvements to automation architecture and machine control systems based on deployment and commissioning experience.


Education & Experience

Bachelor degree in Engineering, with a specialisation in any of the following fields:

  • Mechatronics Engineering
  • Automation Engineering
  • Robotics Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering with significant automation experience


Candidates should have experience working with automation systems used in industrial machinery, or automated equipment environments. Experience should include PLC based control systems, industrial automation programming, and familiarity with SCADA or machine monitoring systems. The role requires experience integrating sensors, actuators, and control hardware within automated machine systems, along with participation in machine commissioning, system testing, or operational deployment of industrial equipment. Familiarity with engineering design tools, control system configuration, and preparation of technical documentation is also desirable.
