The Role:

This is a senior FullStack Developer opportunity embedded within a growing data and technology capability at a leading higher education institution in Malaysia. You will take a lead role in the design, development, and continuous improvement of Moodle-based learning platforms and integrated applications, applying deep expertise in Moodle architecture, PHP, and Java to deliver high-quality, scalable software solutions. Working alongside cross-functional teams, you will shape development standards, mentor less experienced practitioners, and ensure that every solution delivers a reliable, high-performance experience for staff and students.

The Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development, and optimisation of Moodle-based platforms and custom plugins, applying deep knowledge of Moodle architecture, APIs, and theming to deliver scalable, high-performance learning environments.
• Own and drive full-stack software development across PHP and Java, managing all stages of the development lifecycle from requirements gathering and solution design through to construction, testing, and release.
• Establish and champion software development standards, patterns, and best practices across the team, contributing to organisational policies, coding guidelines, and SDLC frameworks that support consistent, high-quality delivery.
• Provide expert technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced developers, leading peer reviews, contributing deep subject matter expertise to projects, and building overall team capability.
• Design and maintain data structures, database schemas, and integration components, applying data modelling and quality assurance techniques to ensure the reliability, integrity, and performance of Moodle and connected systems.

Skills & Experience Required:

• A minimum of 7 years of experience as a FullStack or Software Developer, with proven hands-on expertise in Moodle platform development, including custom plugin development, Moodle APIs, theme development, and LMS integration.
• Advanced proficiency in PHP and Moodle's core development frameworks, coupled with strong skills in one or more additional programming languages, particularly Java or JavaScript, and solid working knowledge of Agile methodologies, SDLC, SQL, MySQL, and Postgres.
• Demonstrated experience across the full software development lifecycle, including planning, architecture, construction, code review, testing, and release management, with a track record of delivering quality Moodle and web-based applications in complex environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, including demonstrated experience in requirements analysis, test case design, defect investigation, and troubleshooting in both development and production environments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide authoritative technical advice, mentor team members, and translate complex business and technical requirements into practical, well-engineered software solutions.
