About the Role
As a Senior Back-End Developer on the NextGenprogramme, you will be responsible for integrating the Backbase EBP platform with Bank's core banking infrastructure, third-party fintech partners, and payment systems. You will work within an agile delivery squad alongside Backbase engineers, EY advisory leads, and Bank's IT and API coordination teams.
This is a complex, regulated banking environment. Your integrations must meet BNM (Bank Negara Malaysia) security and operational standards, and all code must adhere to Backbase's SDLC and CI/CD quality framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Integrate the Backbase EBP platform with Bank's systems of record: core banking (Silverlake), Loan Management System, CRM, Payment Processing, and third-party fintech providers via Backbase Grand Central
- Design and implement microservices using Spring Boot and Java, adhering to Backbase EBP architecture patterns
- Develop and maintain integration layers for dissimilar platforms using OpenAPI, REST, SOAP, and ISO8583 protocols
- Implement and maintain API health monitoring, defect tracking, and performance benchmarks in line with programme governance
- Write clean, documented, maintainable, and production-ready code that accounts for edge cases, security requirements, and BNM compliance obligations
- Contribute to the Technical Architecture Document (TAD) maintained by the Solution Architect
- Participate in Agile ceremonies - sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and release readiness reviews
- Support UAT, integration testing cycles, and go-live cutover activities across R1–R4 releases
- Mentor more junior back-end engineers on the team and within the Bank IT coordination function
- Maintain adherence to Backbase SDLC, CI/CD security framework, and the NextGen programme's Guiding Principles
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of back-end software engineering experience in a similar senior role
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with Spring Boot and Java microservices development
- Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, and Istio for container orchestration and service mesh
- Proven experience creating integrations between dissimilar platforms using OpenAPI, REST, SOAP, ISO8583
- Familiarity with Kafka, Apache Camel, and ActiveMQ (highly desired)
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevOps practices
- Knowledge of common security threats and mitigation techniques (OWASP, secure coding standards)
- Prior experience in a financial services, banking, or fintech environment (preferred)
- Excellent written and spoken English
