Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Database Architect with deep expertise in SQL Server and open‑source databases (OSSDB) to lead large‑scale Azure cloud migration programs.

In this role, you will drive end‑to‑end migration strategy, solutioning, and execution within a factory or wave‑based delivery model, ensuring scalable, secure, and high‑performance database platforms in Azure. You will also provide technical leadership to migration teams while working closely with enterprise stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Database Assessment & Solutioning

• Assess customer database landscapes across SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Sybase, and Cosmos DB
• Identify migration challenges and recommend optimized target Azure services (SQL MI, Azure SQL DB, PostgreSQL/MySQL Flexible Server, Cosmos DB)
• Define migration strategies, architecture patterns, and best practices

Azure Migration Delivery

• Lead end‑to‑end database migrations from on‑premises or other cloud environments to Azure
• Execute migrations using tools and methodologies such as:
• Azure DMS, Azure Migrate
• Backup/restore, replication, log shipping
• OSS tools (pg_dump/restore, ora2pg, etc.)
• Design and execute cutover strategies, rollback plans, and post‑migration validation

High Availability & Disaster Recovery

• Architect and implement HA/DR solutions for enterprise workloads:
• SQL Server (AlwaysOn, FCI, multi‑region deployments)
• OSS databases (replication, clustering, Data Guard equivalents)
• Configure and manage Azure Backup and Recovery Services

Security, Governance & Compliance

• Implement and manage enterprise security controls including:
• Azure Key Vault, encryption (TDE, SSL/TLS)
• Resource governance and policies
• Ensure compliance with enterprise security and regulatory standards

Database Engineering & Operations

• Install, configure, and administer databases across:
• SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Sybase
• Troubleshoot complex issues across Windows, Linux, hybrid environments, and database engines
• Plan and manage capacity, storage, IOPS, and performance optimization

Leadership & Delivery Governance

• Provide technical leadership, guidance, and governance to migration teams
• Drive execution in factory / wave‑based migration models
• Act as escalation point for critical migration and post‑migration issues
• Maintain documentation of architecture, migration patterns, and standards

Required Skills & Experience

• 13+ years of IT experience with 5+ years in Azure database migrations
• Strong expertise in:
• SQL Server (all versions), Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Sybase, Cosmos DB
• Azure database services and migration tools
• Hands‑on experience with:
• HA/DR configurations, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
• Strong scripting skills:
• T‑SQL, PowerShell, Bash/Python
• Experience in large‑scale enterprise migration programs

Good to Have Certifications

• DP‑300 – Administering Microsoft Azure SQL Solutions
• AZ‑305 – Designing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions
• Azure Solutions Architect Expert
• Oracle / PostgreSQL / MySQL certifications (preferred)

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
