Reporting to the Team Lead within Observability & Runtime Tech team, you will help build the central monitoring, observability and DevSecOps platform engineering function for the whole of SP Group. The team’s mandate is expanding fast: taking broader ownership of monitoring platforms across the organisation, onboarding enterprise systems such as Splunk, Datadog, and ITOM platforms into a single coherent stack, embedding Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices that raise reliability for everyone, and enabling secure, automated DevSecOps processes across the software delivery lifecycle. As AI moves into our mission-critical systems, you will also help pioneer how we monitor, observe and govern AI in production.
This is a mid-level role designed to be the bridge in the team – turning senior design thinking into real, shipped engineering, uplifting our junior engineers as you go, and serving as a platform engineer for core DevSecOps tools including Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes and CI/CD platforms. You will not be a small cog in a big machine; you will own platforms and engineering practices that thousands of colleagues and customers quietly depend on every single day. What You'll Do:
- Build and operate a consistent, scalable monitoring and observability stack across SP Group platforms, becoming the central function for monitoring and observability.
- Drive SRE practices to improve system reliability, incident response, and operational efficiency across teams.
- Own and continuously improve DevSecOps processes across the software delivery lifecycle, including secure build, test, release, deployment and operational governance practices.
- Act as the platform engineer for DevSecOps toolchains, including Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, Git-based workflows and CI/CD platforms, ensuring these tools are reliable, secure, scalable and fit for enterprise use.
- Develop and maintain reusable automation, infrastructure-as-code modules, pipeline templates, platform standards and documentation to improve consistency, security and adoption across application teams.
- Onboard and manage enterprise monitoring systems (e.g. Splunk and Datadog) into a unified, well-governed observability platform.
- Incorporate AI monitoring and observability as the organisation increasingly adopts AI for mission-critical systems.
- Onboard application teams to the SRE and observability tools, simplifying the onboarding process and documentation to improve adoption.
- Maintain and enhance DevSecOps platforms through regular patching, upgrades, vulnerability remediation, access reviews, configuration hardening and operational improvements.
- Work with teams to improve the performance and reliability of their services using observability tools and best practices.
- Partner with teams on their emergency and outage response workflows and help define and implement disaster recovery strategies.
- Maintain the reliability and observability tooling with regular patching, upgrades and system enhancements.
- Act as a mentor and coach to junior engineers, bridging execution between senior design work and junior implementation.
What You'll Need:
- 3+ years of hands-on engineering experience, with a strong grounding in monitoring, observability, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevOps or DevSecOps platform engineering.
- Exposure to reliability and observability tools such as Datadog, Dynatrace, New Relic, Graylog, Sentry, PagerDuty, ELK, Prometheus, Grafana and Splunk is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with DevSecOps and platform engineering tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps or equivalent CI/CD platforms is highly desirable.
- Good understanding of infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, container platforms, secure pipeline design, secrets management and software supply chain security practices.
- Prior experience in GoLang and DevOps is a plus.
- Multi-tasking capabilities and able to juggle between priorities.
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency to get things done in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills to peers and management.
- Ability to act as a mentor and coach the junior engineers.
