Job Description

Responsibilities

Jirnexu runs RinggitPlus and CompareHero, Malaysia's leading financial comparison websites. We're hiring a Lead DevOps Engineer to keep our infrastructure and delivery pipelines reliable and secure, and easy for other engineers to use, and to lead the team who builds and runs them.

The stack is Kubernetes and Terraform, running on Amazon Web Services (AWS). AI tools are part of daily work here, not a side experiment: Claude Code is already in daily use across engineering, and part of this role is bringing that same habit to how you lead.

This is a hybrid role, about half hands-on platform work, half technical leadership. You'll set the technical direction for how Jirnexu releases software, build the self-service tools that let other teams deploy safely without waiting on you, and grow a small team of DevOps and platform engineers.

You'll work daily with backend engineers who build in Go, but your own tools can be in any language: Terraform, Go, JavaScript, or Python for platform tooling, Bash for smaller scripts. We're a regulated fintech, so security and audit trails are built into everything you build, not added afterwards.

Leadership and Team

  • Set and manage the technical plan for our platform and infrastructure, matched to what engineering and the business need
  • Be the person your team comes to when something goes wrong, whether the problem is technical or personal. Take full responsibility for major incidents, from the first alert to the final fix
  • Work closely with engineering leaders, and with the security and compliance teams, turning business needs and legal requirements into clear decisions about our infrastructure
  • Build standard, ready-made ways of working, so other engineering teams can move on their own instead of asking you for help every time
  • Take full responsibility for the infrastructure and tools budget: plan costs ahead of time, review spending every month, and negotiate with suppliers. That's more than just finding technical ways to save money
  • Set an example by using AI tools yourself, and make sure your team actually uses tools like Claude Code every day, not just now and then

Platform Engineering and Day-to-day

  • Design and run our Internal Developer Platform (IDP), a set of tools that let other engineers release code, manage passwords and access keys, and set up new environments themselves, following one clear process
  • Make infrastructure as code (Terraform) the default for every environment. No manual, undocumented changes to our live systems
  • Manage and improve our CI/CD (Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment) pipelines. We currently run AWS CodePipeline, with a few older workflows still on GitHub Actions. Bring these together and modernise them, but only where it genuinely helps
  • Run and scale Kubernetes in our live systems, including Helm, networking, and multi-cluster work
  • Build and maintain observability: metrics, logs, and traces that catch problems early, before they turn into an outage
  • Build security into the development pipeline from day one: manage secrets, scan for vulnerabilities, control access, and keep the audit trail a regulated fintech needs
  • Take ownership of our cloud costs: right-size resources, use autoscaling, pick the right pricing model, and cut anything we're paying for but not using
  • Keep documentation and runbooks clear and current. Good documentation grows your team faster than any tool

What We're Looking For

Must Have

  • You already use AI tools, including large language models (LLMs), in your own work and in how you lead your team, today, not as a future plan. You don't need a polished case study, but you should be able to explain exactly how you use these tools and how you'd get your team using them too
  • At least 8 years in infrastructure, platform, or DevOps roles, including at least 3 years leading or mentoring engineers
  • Deep, production experience with Kubernetes. Helm is required; service mesh or multi-cluster experience is a strong plus
  • Hands-on infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform, managed through version control with real state management, not a personal side project
  • Strong command of at least one major cloud platform, ideally AWS: networking, Identity and Access Management (IAM), cost, and serverless tools such as Lambda and Fargate
  • Hands-on experience with AWS CodePipeline and/or GitHub Actions, and the judgement to know when a pipeline needs redesigning rather than patching
  • A practical security mindset: secrets management, least-privilege access, vulnerability scanning, and comfort working under compliance and audit rules
  • Expert Linux, Git, and scripting in Bash and Python. You can read Go well enough to debug and support the teams who write it
  • Excellent writing. You document decisions clearly and can explain trade-offs to engineers and non-technical stakeholders alike

Strong Plus

  • Experience building, or contributing to, an Internal Developer Platform or similar shared tooling
  • GitOps tools such as ArgoCD or Flux, or service mesh tools such as Istio or Linkerd
  • Exposure to AI-assisted operations (AIOps): automatic anomaly detection, risk-based deployment gating, or AI copilots for platform work
  • Prior experience in a regulated industry, such as fintech, banking, or payments, and familiarity with the relevant compliance frameworks
