Purpose: The Technical Draftsman (Kitchen Cabinet) is responsible for translating approved kitchen design concepts and site measurements into accurate, production-ready technical drawings and cutting lists. This role is the critical link between the Sales Kitchen Designer, the production floor, and installation teams — ensuring every cabinet drawing is dimensionally correct, buildable, and consistent with Ella Furniture's quality and finish standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed 2D shop drawings (plan, elevation, section) for kitchen cabinets using AutoCAD, based on approved design concepts and site measurements.
- Build 3D models and visualisations in SketchUp or SolidWorks for client presentation, design validation, and internal review before production release.
- Generate accurate cutting lists, panel schedules, and hardware/BOM lists from finalised drawings for the production team.
- Conduct or verify on-site measurements together with the Sales Kitchen Designer to ensure drawings match actual site conditions (wall alignment, plumbing, electrical points, structural obstructions).
- Coordinate with the production team to ensure approved drawings translate accurately into finished cabinets, flagging any design details that are not feasible to produce.
- Check and revise drawings based on client feedback, design changes, or site condition updates, maintaining clear version control.
- Ensure all drawings comply with standard cabinet construction details (carcass joinery, edge banding allowance, hardware clearances, appliance cut-outs).
- Liaise with the installation team to resolve on-site drawing discrepancies and support snag-list resolution where drawing accuracy is the root cause.
- Maintain an organised drawing archive (project folders, revision history, as-built drawings) for every kitchen project.
- Support the Sales Kitchen Designer in preparing 3D renders and layout options for client proposals and quotations.
Requirements
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Furniture Design, Draughtsmanship, Interior Design, or related technical field.
- Proficient in AutoCAD (2D drafting) - mandatory
- Working knowledge of SketchUp and/or SolidWorks for 3D modelling and visualisation.
- Understanding of cabinet construction methods, materials (melamine, MFC, plywood), and standard hardware systems.
- Able to read architectural/interior design layouts and convert them into technical cabinet drawings.
- Detail-oriented, with strong spatial reasoning and measurement accuracy.
- Comfortable with occasional site visits for measurement verification.
- 0–2 years relevant experience; fresh diploma graduates with strong CAD portfolio are encouraged to apply.
