Project Engineer (Battery Energy Storage & Utility Power Delivery)
Team: Engineering (Project Engineering)
Location: Shah Alam, Selangor
Reports to: Chief Engineer
Hiring level: Fresh graduate and mid-level (multiple positions)
Type: Full-time
Who we are
Dyna is an established Malaysian engineering and energy company operating alongside Rooftop Energy, a growing renewable energy and technology business focused on solar EPC operations and software platforms.
The finance team operates as a shared group function supporting both companies. The work covers operational finance, project-based business transactions, supplier management, statutory compliance, and management reporting across multiple business units.
This role is based at Dyna’s headquarters in Shah Alam and works closely with operations, procurement, management, and external stakeholders on day-to-day finance matters.
Your role
We are hiring Project Engineers to run power projects on site — from design coordination through procurement support, installation, testing, commissioning, and handover — across genset, solar, hybrid, and BESS systems for our critical-infrastructure and utility customers. This is a hands-on, engineering-led seat for someone who can stand behind a design on site and keep a remote project moving.
We are hiring a mix of fresh graduates to build the bench and mid-level engineers who can take a project end to end from the start. You will work across both on- and off-grid projects and report directly to the Chief Engineer in the Engineering team.
What you will work on
- Coordinate project design and delivery. Support system design and sizing for genset, solar-array, hybrid, and BESS configurations, and carry each project from design coordination through to installation.
- Deliver on site. Supervise installation, lead testing and commissioning, verify the installed system against design, close out issues, and prepare commissioning and handover documentation.
- Support procurement. Help specify equipment and materials, and coordinate readiness so sites are not held up.
- Integrate BESS with power systems. Work with battery racks, battery management systems (BMS), power conversion systems (PCS) / bidirectional inverters, and energy management systems (EMS), and how they integrate with gensets and the grid.
- Meet utility and grid requirements. Support low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear, protection, metering, and grid interconnection / synchronisation to utility technical and commissioning requirements.
- Lead on the ground. Coordinate technicians and subcontractors, be present at the critical points where engineering judgement is needed, and make sound decisions under pressure with limited supervision.
- Raise the standard. Compare actual performance against design and capture lessons on sizing, configuration, and component selection project by project.
Must-haves
- Degree in Electrical, Electrical & Electronic, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline
- 1 to 3 years of experience in delivering power, EPC, genset, solar, or BESS projects. Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.
- Proven end-to-end project delivery: design coordination, procurement support, installation supervision, testing and commissioning, and handover
- Suruhanjaya Tenaga chargeman or PW4 certification, or the ability to certify shortly after joining
- Working knowledge of BESS building blocks — battery racks, battery management systems (BMS), power conversion systems (PCS) or bidirectional inverters, and energy management systems (EMS) — and how they integrate with gensets and the grid
- Comfortable with low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear, protection relays, metering, and grid interconnection or synchronisation
- Able to lead technicians and subcontractors on site and make sound decisions under pressure
- Sound understanding of electrical power systems fundamentals
- Willingness to travel to and stand by at project and utility sites, including remote and East Malaysia (Sabah) locations
- Valid driving licence
- Physically fit and comfortable with outdoor and remote-site work
- Able to work with limited supervision and take ownership of site outcomes
Good to have
- Direct experience on utility-scale or containerised BESS projects
- Experience meeting utility technical and commissioning requirements
- Familiarity with PCS or inverter platforms and genset controllers (for example ComAp)
- Solar PV hybrid project experience
- SCADA or EMS commissioning exposure
