Job Summary

The Shift Manager is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the plant during assigned shifts. Shift Manager ensures compliance with all operational protocols, safety standards and environmental regulations while optimizing plant performance and productivity. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of power plant systems, exceptional problem-solving abilities and strong leadership skills to manage and support a team of plant operators and technicians.

Job Responsibilities

Plant Operation

• Ensure the main plant and all associated auxiliaries’ equipment are operated to the established standards in a safe, efficient and reliable manner.
• Monitor and analyze plant operational performance and ensure timely interference to correct any operational abnormalities.
• Ensure plant commissioning activities after outage (planned / forced) and plant routine test (online / offline) are executed within schedule as prepared by Engineer (Operation & Performance).
• Prepare and provide necessary reports (Shift Log, UOIR, OSSC, etc.) to relevant parties. Ensure all important operational data, plant status including plant defects are monitored, captured and managed.
• Communicate and cooperate with other departments including administration, technical and safety policy / procedure to ensure the availability and reliability of plant operation.
• Communicate and collaborate with other stakeholders such as Petronas and Grid System Operator (NLDC) for effective coordination and efficient plant operation.
• Comply and carry out operation-related tasks as stipulated in the contracts (Power Purchase Agreement).
• Other duties as assigned.

Plant Improvement and People Development

• Manage effectively sub-ordinates issues such as welfare, management related leave and coverage, performance appraisal, discipline and competency as required.
• Ensure On-the-Job Training program for operators is being carried out effectively according to yearly OJT training plan.
• Engage staff towards achieving business excellence in plant Operation and Maintenance.

Safety, Health and Environment

• Issue all Permit to Work (PTW) and administers the associated Lock out Tag out (LOTO), Confined Space and Hot works permits including system isolation and normalization process for electrical & mechanical equipment.
