Finexus is a Malaysian fintech group delivering end-to-end payment solutions, regulatory technology, and digital financial services. We build and operate our own platforms — from payment processing and regulatory reporting to in-house enterprise systems — and we are actively embedding AI across our products and internal operations.

About the Role

We are looking for an AI Intern who is excited about applying modern AI tools to solve real business problems. You will work alongside our technology and business teams to prototype, test, and roll out AI-powered solutions — from LLM-driven automation of internal workflows to AI features within our fintech products.

This is a hands-on, build-first internship. You won't just be doing research — you'll ship working prototypes that real users at Finexus will try.

What You Will Do

• Build working prototypes and proof-of-concepts using LLM APIs (e.g., Claude, GPT, Gemini) and AI-assisted development tools
• Design, test, and refine prompts and agent workflows for internal use cases across departments (e.g., HR, compliance, operations, customer support)
• Automate repetitive internal processes using AI, scripting, and workflow tools
• Assist in evaluating AI tools and vendors, including running structured trials and documenting findings
• Clean, structure, and analyse data to support AI use cases and management reporting
• Document solutions clearly and conduct simple demos/training for non-technical teams
• Stay current on AI developments and share practical recommendations with the team

What We Are Looking For

• Currently pursuing (or recently completed) a degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• Working knowledge of Python and/or JavaScript
• Hands-on familiarity with LLMs and AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) beyond casual use — you have built something with them, even a personal project
• Understanding of prompt engineering fundamentals and API integration
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate loosely defined business requirements into a working solution
• Clear communicator, comfortable presenting to non-technical stakeholders
• Self-starter who can work independently, iterate quickly, and ask good questions

Nice to Have

• Experience with AI-assisted development workflows (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to rapidly build functional prototypes
• Exposure to RAG (retrieval-augmented generation), vector databases, or agent frameworks
• Basic knowledge of SQL and data visualisation
• Familiarity with low-code/automation platforms (e.g., Zapier, Power Automate)
• Interest in fintech, payments, or regulatory technology
• Portfolio, GitHub profile, or demo of AI projects you have built
