Job Description

Responsibilities

Our client, an established business group, is seeking an accomplished General Manager to lead the establishment and growth of its heavy-equipment and commercial-vehicle business in Malaysia. This is a build-and-lead mandate: you will shape the market strategy, build the local platform and team, and own performance from commercial growth through aftersales delivery.

As the country leader, you will hold full P&L accountability and report directly to the Board of Directors in Singapore, working closely with the Group Managing Director and other Directors.

The role suits a commercially ambitious, hands-on leader who can translate strategy into a disciplined, customer-focused operation.

Responsibilities

• Set the Malaysia strategy, business plan, annual budget and investment priorities; convert these into clear commercial and operational targets.

• Own the full P&L, including revenue, margin, working capital, cash performance, cost control and management reporting.

• Build the commercial and operating platform required to support sustainable growth across the Malaysia business.

• Drive profitable sales growth across relevant customer segments through direct sales, key accounts, channel partnerships and disciplined pipeline management.

• Build a strong lifecycle proposition spanning equipment sales, parts, service, warranty, technical support and customer uptime.

• Lead relationships with OEM principals, aligning on market plans, forecasts, product positioning, standards, training and performance commitments.

• Recruit, organise and develop a high-performing Malaysia team with clear accountability, operating rhythms and succession depth.

• Strengthen brand presence and senior relationships with customers, industry partners, regulators and other key stakeholders.

• Ensure robust governance, internal controls, statutory compliance, health and safety, and adherence to Group and principal requirements.

• Provide the Board with timely, decision-useful insight on performance, market dynamics, risks and growth opportunities.

Requirements

• 12–15+ years of progressive experience in heavy equipment, cranes, commercial vehicles, industrial machinery or a closely related sector.

• Substantial general-management or business-unit leadership experience with direct P&L responsibility and a record of profitable growth.

• Strong knowledge of the Malaysian market, customer landscape and commercial practices; relevant regional exposure is advantageous.

• Demonstrated ability to build or transform an equipment or commercial-vehicle business, including sales, channel development and aftersales operations.

• Credibility in managing OEM/principal relationships and balancing growth commitments with operational and governance discipline.

• A well-developed network across Malaysia’s heavy-equipment, crane, commercial-vehicle or industrial sectors, with the ability to open doors and build trusted senior relationships.

• Commercial judgement, financial acumen and a data-led approach to forecasting, working capital and investment decisions.

• A hands-on, entrepreneurial leadership style, with the maturity to operate effectively with a Board and across a regional Group.

• Excellent stakeholder, negotiation and communication skills.
