The Role

We are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to build and lead the finance function at Sunzo Solar.

This is a highly hands-on role for a finance professional who thrives in fast-growing, entrepreneurial

environments. Reporting directly to the Country Launcher (CEO), you will be responsible for all aspects of financial management, from accounting and cash flow forecasting to investor reporting and financial planning.


As the sole owner of the finance function, you will play a critical role in ensuring financial discipline,

maintaining investor confidence, and providing the insights required to support rapid business growth.

This position is ideal for someone who has previously operated as a Financial Controller, Finance

Manager, or equivalent within a startup, SME, or high-growth business.


Key Responsibilities:


Financial Management & Reporting

  • Own the company's full profit and loss (P&L), balance sheet, and cash flow reporting.
  • Lead the monthly financial close process, including reconciliations, accruals, and management reporting.
  • Perform variance analysis against budgets, forecasts, and key business drivers.
  • Develop and maintain management dashboards that provide clear visibility into company performance.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and decision-useful financial information for management and investors.


Cash Flow & Treasury Management

  • Build and maintain a rolling 12-month cash flow forecast.
  • Monitor cash balances, working capital, and liquidity requirements.
  • Track weekly cash burn and runway against business plans and investor expectations.
  • Manage banking relationships, payment processes, and treasury operations.
  • Develop forecasting scenarios to support growth planning and capital allocation decisions.


Investor & Board Reporting

  • Manage venture capital fund drawdowns and ensure spending remains aligned with approved
  • investment milestones.
  • Track and report the utilisation of investor capital against agreed budgets and operating plans.

Prepare monthly and quarterly investor reporting packs, including:

  • Revenue performance
  • Cost of goods sold (COGS)
  • Gross margin
  • Operating expenses
  • EBITDA and net income
  • Cash position and runway
  • Key business metrics and performance indicators

Support fundraising, due diligence, and investor communications as required.


Revenue, Collections & Financial Controls

  • Oversee customer collections and cash receipt processes.
  • Reconcile customer payments, financing disbursements, and CRM transaction records.
  • Establish and maintain robust financial controls and approval processes.
  • Develop policies and procedures that support financial governance and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and audit-ready at all times.


Accounting & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain the company's chart of accounts, accounting systems, and reporting structures.
  • Manage payroll processing and employee-related statutory obligations.

Ensure compliance with all Malaysian regulatory and statutory requirements, including:

  • EPF
  • SOCSO
  • PCB
  • SST (where applicable)
  • Companies Act 2016 requirements
  • Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and statutory submissions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for auditors, tax advisors, bankers, and the Company Secretary


Finance Function Development

  • Build the finance function from the ground up, including systems, processes, controls, and reporting frameworks.
  • Evaluate and implement financial tools and software to support business growth.
  • Develop scalable financial processes that can support future expansion.
  • Partner closely with business leaders to improve financial decision-making and operational performance.


What We're Looking For:


Required Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in finance, accounting, or financial management roles.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or equivalent senior finance position.
  • Proven experience owning and managing the full P&L of an SME, startup, or project-based business.
  • Strong understanding of management accounting, financial reporting, and cash flow management.
  • Experience operating independently and building finance processes from scratch.


Technical Skills

  • Advanced financial modelling and forecasting capabilities.
  • Strong Excel and spreadsheet modelling skills, including scenario and sensitivity analysis.
  • Experience building budgets, cash flow forecasts, and management reporting frameworks.
  • Familiarity with accounting software and financial management systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.


Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of Malaysian accounting, tax, and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing EPF, SOCSO, PCB, SST, payroll, and annual statutory filings.
  • Familiarity with audit processes, tax compliance, and corporate governance requirements.


Highly Advantageous Experience

  • Experience in any of the following areas will be viewed favourably:
  • Venture capital-backed companies
  • Investor reporting and board reporting
  • Fundraising and due diligence processes
  • Consumer finance, BNPL, instalment financing, or hire-purchase models
  • Renewable energy, construction, project-based, or asset-backed businesses
  • Fast-growing startups or scale-up environments


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, ICAEW, or equivalent are highly desirable.
