Personnel to be deployed at the following hours:
· Mondays to Thursdays: 7:30am to 5:00pm, inclusive of 1hr lunch break
· Fridays:7:30am to 4:30pm, inclusive of 1hr lunch break
Job Summary
The Science Laboratory Assistant supports the school’s Science curriculum by maintaining safe, organized laboratories and ensuring equipment and materials are ready and available for teaching and learning.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of Science laboratories and preparation rooms to ensure smooth functioning
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment for staff and students
- Prepare, set up, and clear equipment, apparatus, specimens, and materials for practical lessons, demonstrations, and experiments
- Collaborate with HOD/Science and teachers to prepare resources for curriculum lessons, enrichment programmes, and ad hoc Science activities
- Provide support during practical lessons as needed to facilitate effective learning
- Maintain laboratory equipment, apparatus, models, and teaching resources in good working condition through regular checks and upkeep
- Keep accurate records of inventory, stock usage, and breakages to support resource management
- Conduct annual stocktaking and recommend purchases or replacements of equipment and consumables to maintain adequate supplies
- Support procurement processes by monitoring stock levels, preparing purchase requests, obtaining quotations, verifying deliveries, and updating inventory records
- Report faulty or damaged equipment promptly to ensure timely repairs or replacements
- Ensure safe storage, handling, and proper record-keeping of chemicals to comply with safety standards
- Maintain laboratory safety equipment and report any safety hazards immediately to uphold a safe working environment
- Uphold safe laboratory practices and comply with all school safety procedures to protect staff and students
- Manage distribution and collection of Science teaching and learning resources, including teachers’ desk copies, to support lesson delivery
- Support Science-related programmes such as E2K, Green Club, STEM activities, and other departmental initiatives to enhance student engagement
- Perform other laboratory-related duties as assigned by the HOD/Science or School Leaders to meet departmental needs
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Preferably 3 years of experience providing Science laboratory assistance in an educational institution
- Minimum GCE O-Level qualification with a pass in at least one Science subject, or equivalent education and work experience
- Qualification in a Science or Science-related field is preferred
- Ability to work independently as a Science laboratory assistant, demonstrating proficiency in handling laboratory equipment, following safety procedures, managing inventory, and using basic IT skills for record-keeping
