Role Description The Assistant Engineer, Rail IT/OT role is a full-time on-site position based in Kuala Lumpur. This role supports the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of rail IT and OT systems, including networks, control systems, communications, monitoring platforms, and related hardware and software. Day-to-day tasks include assisting with system configuration, performing routine inspections, documenting technical changes, and responding to incidents or faults under the guidance of senior engineers. The Assistant Engineer collaborates with operations teams and vendors to ensure systems are integrated correctly, compliant with standards, and available for safe rail operations. The role also involves preparing technical reports, maintaining accurate records, and participating in continuous improvement and upgrade

projects.


Qualifications

  • Foundational knowledge of IT and OT systems, such as computer networks, industrial control systems, and system integration in rail or related industries.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, diagrams, and system specifications, and to assist in configuration and testing activities.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for identifying, documenting, and resolving technical issues in collaboration with senior engineers.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to work with engineering, operations, and vendor teams, including clear reporting and documentation.
  • Relevant academic background, such as a diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Willingness to work in an on-site rail environment, follow safety procedures, and participate in shift or after-hours support when required.
  • Basic familiarity with industry standards or guidelines related to rail systems, safety, or industrial automation is an advantage.
  • Motivation to learn new technologies, adapt to evolving systems, and contribute to continuous improvement of rail IT/OT solutions.
