Job Description

Responsibilities

Job Summary

The DCS Specialist is responsible for operating and monitoring the Distributed Control System (DCS) to support blending, transfer, and bulk handling activities within the lubrication blending plant. Reporting to the DCS Supervisor, this role ensures safe and efficient execution of automated operations, maintains accurate operational records, and supports smooth coordination between production, tank farm, maintenance, and quality teams.

Operational Execution

  • Operate and monitor daily DCS blending, transfer, and bulk loading activities according to approved procedures and schedules.
  • Monitor operational parameters, tank inventory levels, and transfer activities through the DCS system.
  • Execute tank-to-tank transfers, raw material receiving, and product dispatch activities.
  • Operate automated line pigging activities to maximize product recovery and minimize cross-contamination risks.
  • Ensure transfer routes, tanks, pumps, and pipelines are prepared and verified before operations.
  • Monitor production progress and report operational abnormalities or interruptions promptly.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping and operational discipline within the DCS control room.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Comply with all plant safety procedures, operational work instructions, and permit-to-work requirements.
  • Ensure blending and transfer operations comply with quality and contamination control requirements.
  • Report operational deviations, alarms, unsafe conditions, and near misses promptly.
  • Support compliance with ISO, environmental, and operational standards.
  • Verify proper line clearance and tank status before initiating transfer activities.

Team Coordination & Support

  • Coordinate closely with DCS Supervisor, production operators during daily operations.
  • Support smooth communication during operational handovers and shift transitions.
  • Assist in coordinating operational priorities to support production schedules.
  • Escalate operational or equipment issues to the DCS Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Support teamwork and operational discipline within the production environment.

Production Support & Coordination

  • Support preparation and availability of tanks, transfer routes, and raw materials before operations.
  • Assist in troubleshooting transfer, blending, and DCS operational issues to minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate with maintenance personnel during equipment breakdowns and maintenance activities.
  • Support urgent operational requirements while maintaining operational safety and control.

Documentation

  • Maintain accurate DCS operational logs, transfer records, and inventory transactions.
  • Ensure batch traceability and operational records are maintained accurately.
  • Complete operational checklists, transfer confirmations, and documentation requirements.
  • Support stock take activities and inventory verification when required.

Continuous Improvement

  • Support DCS supervisor in efficiency and quality to eliminate waste, optimize workflows, and uphold lean manufacturing principles
  • Assist in reducing operational downtime, transfer delays, and product handling losses.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action implementation.
  • Support continuous improvement activities related to DCS and operational processes.
  • Promote operational discipline and adherence to standard operating procedures.

Requirements

Education

  • NITEC / Diploma in Engineering, Manufacturing, Process Technology, Operations, or related field.

Experience

  • 2–4 years of experience in manufacturing, lubricants, chemicals, or process industry.
  • Experience in DCS operations or automated process operations is preferred.
  • Experience in lubrication blending operations is an advantage.

Skills & Competencies

  • Good communication and coordination skills.
  • Basic understanding of DCS operations and process safety practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple operational activities effectively.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving capability.
  • Familiarity with SAP or production management systems is an advantage.
  • Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and operational discipline.
