The Senior / Care Support Associate (Casting Trained) plays a vital role in supporting orthopaedic and trauma care by delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality casting and splinting services. Through technical expertise, patient education, and close collaboration with doctors and nurses, this role contributes directly to positive patient outcomes, comfort, recovery,and overall experience.

As a key member of the multidisciplinary care team, you willensure patients receive timely and appropriate cast management while upholding high standards of safety, infection prevention, and patient-centred care.

What You Will Drive

1. Clinical Casting & Patient Care Support

• Perform a variety of casting procedures as prescribed by doctors.
• Recommend suitable cast types based on clinical knowledge and fracture management requirements.
• Carry out casting room procedures, including:
• Cast application, adjustment, and removal.
• Cast repairs and modifications.
• Application of walking aids and devices.
• Bi-valving, wedging, and windowing of casts.
• Fabricate and apply splints, braces, and supportive devices, including:
• Finger splints.
• Wrist splints.
• Humerus splints.
• Knee splints.
• Pressure dressings and bandages.
• Apply and remove dressings while assessing wound conditions before treatment, including:
• Pin site dressings for external fixators.
• Stump dressings.
• Dressings for severe pressure injuries and blisters.
• Suture removal.
• Assist doctors and nurses with procedures conducted in the cast room.
• Complete charge documentation and relevant clinical records accurately and promptly.
• Educate patients and caregivers on the care and maintenance of casts, slabs, braces, and related devices.

2. Patient Experience & Service Excellence

• Deliver excellent customer service that meets and exceeds patient expectations.
• Respond professionally to patient, caregiver, and public enquiries.
• Anticipate patients' needs and provide relevant guidance and information.
• Support a positive and reassuring care environment for patients throughout their treatment journey.
• Effectively prioritise and manage workload during periods of high patient volume while maintaining service quality.

3. Equipment, Inventory & Operational Management

• Ensure adequate stock levels and timely replenishment of consumables within the cast room.
• Oversee ordering and supply of casting materials, consumables, and related equipment.
• Exercise prudent use of supplies and resources while maintaining service readiness.
• Maintain cast room equipment and promptly report any defects or malfunctions.
• Support the day-to-day efficiency and effectiveness of cast room operations.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organised environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
• Perform housekeeping duties when required.

4. Quality, Safety & Professional Practice

• Observe Universal Precautions and infection prevention practices in all patient-care procedures.
• Maintain accurate, objective, and timely documentation in accordance with hospital standards.
• Uphold patient privacy, confidentiality, and the security of medical records and information.
• Advocate for patients' rights, needs, and well-being.
• Assume accountability for own clinical practice and delegated responsibilities.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and professional standards.

5. Team Development & Continuous Improvement

• Assist in the supervision, orientation, and training of new Cast Technicians and team members.
• Conduct competency assessments and provide guidance to support team development.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, service quality, and patient care outcomes.
• Review and improve cast room workflows in consultation with Nurse Clinicians and Nursing Leadership.
• Keep abreast of developments in casting techniques, equipment, materials, and orthopaedic practices.
• Participate actively in training programmes, in-service education, and continuous learning opportunities.
• Support departmental projects and perform additional duties assigned by supervisors.

What You Bring

Education & Experience

• Minimum GCE N level, or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.
• Certified Casting Technician training is preferred.
• Experience working in an acute hospital or specialist outpatient clinic is advantageous.
• Candidates with strong practical experience and relevant certifications may also be considered.

Professional Skills & Attributes

• Strong technical competency in cast application, removal, splint fabrication, and dressing procedures.
• Good understanding of orthopaedic conditions, fracture management, and patient care principles.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage patients from diverse backgrounds.

• Strong organisational and time management skills.
