Job Description

Responsibilities

Role Description

  • The full-time/part-time of MSc/PhD student at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Intelligent Computing, UniMAP in field of numerical analysis, including differential equations, mathematical modeling, and data-driven analysis.
  • Day-to-day activities include conducting literature reviews, designing and implementing mathematical models or simulations, collecting and analyzing data, and preparing research reports, articles, and theses.
  • The role involves regular meetings with supervisors, participation in seminars and workshops, and collaboration on research projects and publications within the institute.
  • This is a hybrid role based in Perlis, Malaysia, with primary on-campus work and some flexibility for remote, work-from-home tasks depending on project needs and supervisor guidance.


Qualifications

PhD Programme

  1. A master's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or any related fields from any institution of higher learning recognised by the University Senate OR
  2. Any other equivalent qualification recognised by the University Senate

Master Programme

  1. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mathematics, Computer Science, or any related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 from university recognised by the University Senate; OR
  2. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mathematics, Computer Science, or any related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment; OR
  3. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mathematics, Computer Science, or any related field with CGPA below 2.50 can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in relevant fields.


General Requirements

  • Strong foundation in mathematics, engineering mathematics, or statistics, supported by a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience with mathematical modeling, simulation, or data analysis.
  • Proficiency with relevant software and tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python/R, statistical packages, or other computational platforms) is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to conduct independent research, including literature review, experimental or computational design, and documentation of findings.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to prepare academic papers, reports, and presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to manage time and responsibilities in a full-time postgraduate environment.
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting and to participate in seminars, training programs, and outreach activities.
