1. NDE Technician – Level 2 Ultrasonic Flaw Detector (UT Specialist)

Job Summary

The Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Technician is responsible for evaluating the structural integrity of welds, forgings, castings, plate materials, and piping systems using digital ultrasonic flaw detectors. The role focuses on identifying internal/volumetric flaws (e.g., lack of penetration, porosity, slag inclusions, cracking) and performing thickness/corrosion surveys without damaging the component.

Key Responsibilities

• Equipment Setup & Calibration: Setup, standardize, and calibrate digital UT flaw detectors (e.g., Evident/Olympus Epoch series, Krautkramer, Sonatest) using reference calibration blocks (IIW Type 1 & 2, ASTM blocks).
• Flaw Detection & Evaluation: Perform straight-beam and angle-beam ultrasonic inspections on structural welds, pressure vessels, offshore structures, or piping.
• Defect Sizing: Analyze CRT/A-scan readouts to determine flaw depth, length, amplitude, and orientation using Distance Amplitude Curves (DAC), Time Corrected Gain (TCG), or DGS methods.
• Code Compliance: Evaluate inspection data against applicable code acceptance criteria (e.g., ASME Section V/VIII, AWS D1.1, API 1104, ISO 17640).
• Reporting: Document inspection coverage, flaw location maps, signal patterns, and pass/fail results into formal quality records.

2. NDE Technician – Level 2 Eddy Current Testing (ET Specialist)

Job Summary

The Eddy Current Testing (ET) Technician uses electromagnetic induction testing to detect surface and near-surface discontinuities in conductive materials. This position primarily inspects aircraft structures, heat exchanger and condenser tubing, bolt holes, and high-stress marine/industrial components for fatigue cracking, stress corrosion cracking (SCC), and heat treatment anomalies.

Key Responsibilities

• Electromagnetic Inspection: Operate advanced eddy current flaw detectors (e.g., Olympus Nortec, Zetec) utilizing surface, pencil, bolt-hole, and internal diameter (ID) bobbin probes.
• Calibration & Tuning: Select optimal frequencies, phase angles, and gain settings using calibration reference standards with artificial defects (NIST-traceable EDM notches).
• Signal Analysis: Interpret complex impedance plane displays, phase angle shifts, and signal responses to differentiate between lift-off, geometric changes, permeability variations, and actual material defects.
• Conductivity & Coating Measurement: Perform electrical conductivity testing (for material sorting or heat damage assessment) and non-conductive coating thickness measurements.
• Tubing & Surface Audits: Inspect heat exchanger/boiler tubes (bobbin probe ET) or aerostructure fasteners and skin joints, generating wall-loss and defect-depth profiles.
