Job Description

All reasonable requests within the hours of duty.

Specific Task & Responsibilities:

  • In accordance with guidelines and the approved menu, prepare lunch and dinner. To also prepare morning and afternoon tea for residents. To serve meals according to a daily timetable.
  • Wash all kitchen utensils.
  • Responsible for cleaning of the kitchen area, ensuring that it is swept and mopped every day.
  • Ensure that all food is properly stored in the refrigerator/freezer and that such areas are kept clean and hygienic.
  • See to the sorting, storing and subsequent proper use or serving of all fresh donated food items.
  • Defrost and clean the refrigerator and freezer once a month. Drain the water outlet at the fridge when full.
  • Prepare and organize special meals/parties.
  • Store all knives in the box (with key) provided at the end of your working hours.
  • To inform the Superintendent of any excess food brought in by the public.
  • Do the kitchen laundry daily and make sure the kitchen tablecloths are clean at all times.
  • Help in fundraising and special events eg. Open Day (Sale of Work), Christmas Kettling, Christmas Day Dinner, etc.
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Home Manager from time to time.


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum secondary education

Other Compentencies:

  • Proven experience as a cook is advantageous.
  • Excellent hygiene and cleanliness standards.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
