Senior EDA & Semiconductor Systems Engineer

Location: ASEM HQ, Cyberjaya, Selangor

Employment Type: Full-Time

ASEM (Advanced Semiconductor Academy of Malaysia) is focused on developing industry-ready semiconductor talent and strengthening Malaysia's semiconductor ecosystem through technical training, industry projects, advanced EDA tools and hands-on IC design programmes.

We work closely with semiconductor companies, universities, technical experts and students across areas including Digital IC Design, Analog IC Design, Physical Design, Verification, SoC Design, Embedded Systems and related semiconductor technologies.


About the Role

ASEM is looking for a Senior EDA & Semiconductor Systems Engineer to manage and support our semiconductor technical infrastructure, including EDA tools, license servers, computing servers, networks, firewalls and IC design laboratory environment.


The successful candidate should have experience working within a semiconductor, IC design, EDA, electronics R&D or engineering environment and understand how engineering teams use EDA tools and computing infrastructure.


The role will also work closely with ASEM's Academic and Industry teams to support curriculum development, student projects, technical labs and industry-based semiconductor projects.


Key Responsibilities


1. EDA Tools & License Management
  • Install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot semiconductor EDA tools, including:
  • Synopsys
  • Cadence
  • Siemens EDA / Mentor Graphics
  • Manage EDA license servers, license files, FlexNet/FlexLM and user access.
  • Monitor license utilisation and coordinate license renewals, upgrades and vendor support.
  • Troubleshoot tool installation, environment configuration and license connectivity issues.
  • Support PDK, library and design environment setup where required.


2. Server, Network & Technical Infrastructure
  • Manage and maintain EDA license servers, compute/hosting servers and storage infrastructure.
  • Understand the different requirements between license servers, compute servers, file/storage servers and application servers.
  • Manage Linux and Windows server environments used for engineering and administrative purposes.
  • Configure and troubleshoot LAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, firewall and network access.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, storage, backup and security.
  • Ensure stable connectivity between engineering workstations, EDA servers and license servers.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for server, firewall, networking and infrastructure requirements.


3. Semiconductor & IC Design Technical Support
  • Provide technical support for semiconductor training and IC design projects.
  • Have practical understanding of the IC design flow, such as:
  • RTL Design
  • Simulation
  • Synthesis
  • Design Verification
  • Physical Design / RTL-to-GDS
  • Analog IC Design
  • Schematic & Simulation
  • IC Layout
  • Support the setup of EDA environments for student and industry projects.
  • Assist students and trainers in troubleshooting technical issues during laboratory sessions and projects.


4. Academic & Curriculum Support
  • Work closely with ASEM's Academic Team to review and evaluate technical training content.
  • Provide technical input on whether curriculum, labs and projects reflect current semiconductor industry practices.
  • Support trainers during technical classes and laboratory sessions where required.
  • Act as a senior technical resource / Teaching Assistant for advanced semiconductor programmes.
  • Assist in developing practical exercises, lab assignments and semiconductor projects.
5. Industry Project Development
  • Work with ASEM's Industry and Academic teams to identify suitable semiconductor projects for students.
  • Translate industry requirements into practical student projects, lab exercises and technical deliverables.
  • Support project scoping, technical evaluation and implementation.
  • Help students troubleshoot and complete industry-based projects.
  • Coordinate with semiconductor companies, EDA vendors and technical partners where required.


Requirements
  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant technical experience.
  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Microelectronics, Semiconductor Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Experience working in a semiconductor, IC design, EDA, electronics R&D or engineering environment is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major EDA platform such as Synopsys, Cadence or Siemens EDA / Mentor Graphics.
  • Experience managing or supporting EDA license servers is highly preferred.
  • Good knowledge of Linux environments and engineering servers.
  • Understanding of server infrastructure, networking, firewalls, Wi-Fi, VPN, storage and backup.
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of IC design and/or IC layout flows.
  • Experience supporting engineering laboratories, design teams, universities or technical training environments is an advantage.
  • Able to communicate technical concepts clearly to students, trainers and non-technical team members.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be willing to work in Cyberjaya.
