Responsibilities
About the role
The Plant Facilities & EHS Engineer is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable and well-maintained condition of the plant and its associated facilities. The role provides day-to-day oversight of plant facilities, workplace conditions, housekeeping, basic maintenance coordination, contractor activities and EHS compliance, ensuring deficiencies are identified early, assigned to the appropriate responsible party and followed through to closure.
Key responsibilities
Conduct routine inspections of the overall plant and facility condition, including WWTP plant facilities, process tank structures, equipment platforms, gratings, walkways, fixed ladders and stairs, handrails, bunds and containment areas, chemical storage and dosing areas, drainage systems, pipe supports, equipment foundations, ventilation systems, lighting and access points
Identify damaged, deteriorated or unsafe facilities and coordinate corrective actions
Monitor general utilities and facility-related systems where applicable
Coordinate minor facility repair and improvement works with internal teams and contractors
Maintain a register of facility defects and track actions until closure
Ensure emergency access routes, walkways and working areas remain unobstructed and serviceable
Conduct routine EHS inspections and workplace observations to identify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions
Support implementation of Risk Assessments, Safe Work Procedures and Permit-to-Work requirements
Monitor PPE compliance and general workforce safety behaviours
Support incident and near-miss investigations and follow-up of corrective and preventive actions
Drive good housekeeping standards throughout the plant and conduct routine plant walkdowns
Monitor contractors performing maintenance, repair and facility works within the plant
Verify that required permits, risk assessments and control measures are established before work begins
Support preparation and closure of client EHS and facility observations
Prepare a concise monthly Facilities & EHS performance update highlighting major findings, overdue actions, recurring problems and improvement initiatives
About you
Diploma or degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Environmental, Occupational Safety & Health or related discipline
Approximately 1-3 years of relevant experience in industrial plants, manufacturing, utilities, water/wastewater treatment or similar environments
Basic understanding of plant maintenance and facility management
Knowledge of workplace safety and environmental requirements
Comfortable conducting plant inspections and engaging contractors and operations personnel
Able to identify deficiencies and independently follow up corrective actions
Good documentation and reporting skills
Practical, hands-on and willing to spend significant time in the plant rather than performing the role primarily from the office
Strong communication skills and problem-solving skills to convey ideas and technical information effectively with team and customers
Excellent team player with good interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude
Ability to multi-task in a fast paced and dynamic environment
Deep knowledge of construction EHS best practice, aware of the legal aspects and ability to recognize all construction hazards and how to manage them
Ability to make decisions, work with people and set standards
Proven ability to manage a safety program and create a safety culture through safety programs
Works independently with minimal supervision
Yellow Book (Registered Site Safety Supervisor) – Optional
OSH Coordinator Certificate – Company will send if selected candidate does not possess it
