Responsibilities

Job Title: Senior Network Engineer


  • Using functional and/or technical expertise in the area of Network and Security Operations, this position will be responsible for administration, configuration, architecture, maintenance and support of network equipment including WAN, LAN, routers, switches, firewalls and other security appliances as necessary and to achieve maximum availability of services.
  • This position will play a significant role in designing and maintaining the regional (AMAS) WAN, LAN, VOIP, Data Center and Legacy networks to include potential collaboration in configuration of global network systems. This position is also responsible for system enhancements, administration and support activities that can affect over 20000 users. The position is also responsible for secure and safe operation and configuration of infrastructure network components.
  • Geographic scope includes all 250+ sites in the world.
  • This position will also support and manage legacy networks, including migration of M&A networks to client’s NEO network as required.
  • Project management duties periodically, with project teams that may include internal IT resources, contractors, and/or vendor resources. Project teams vary in size by project, with typically three IT resources plus business resources, with possibly more.


Key Activities and responsibilities


  • Be a leader in projects at a global scale. Using knowledge and experience of previous projects to guide the team towards the overall goal in accordance with the agreed upon timelines.
  • Assist the project management team to better understand the technical aspects of the projects to increase the knowledge of all members and lead to more successful projects
  • Involved in evolution as defined by IT management including evaluation, preparation, design, construction, and build process.
  • Evaluation of WAN provider solutions and selection of best-in-class offerings to continually improve network reliability, continuity, and performance to deliver business applications and solutions.
  • Participation in regional and global project initiatives to implement and comply with global network architecture and security vision, while maintaining access and integrity of regional networks to meet business requirements.
  • Leads and/or performs project activities: Gather business/technical requirements, design solutions to meet requirements, facilitate vendor evaluation and selection, develop functional/technical specs that align with process design, configure and integrate hardware and perform unit testing, conduct walk-throughs, analysis of system issues, prepare technical documentation, cutover to production, go live user support and stabilization.
  • Coordination with staff department leaders on project management activities, including project planning, resource management, stage gate activities, strategy development, technical communications, change management, workshops, identifying/evaluating alternative solutions to project obstacles.
  • Works collaboratively with IT management and teams to leverage functional/technical expertise within other IT teams during all project phases, for delivery of secure design, and infrastructure connectivity solutions.
  • Works collaboratively with process owners, business stakeholders, and staff departments, to leverage their professional expertise during all project phases, for delivery of requirements, process design, testing, user training, communications, cutover to production, etc.
  • Diagram, document and illustrate current and proposed network configurations including logical and physical pathways to guide troubleshooting and training.
  • Maintain inventory and lists of devices and firmware versions in support of Security patching and asset control.
  • Conduct operations in support of global cyber security initiatives within the iSafe program and other network improvements and security initiatives as directed.
  • Performs network administration, configuration and formal ongoing network WAN/LAN support.
  • Repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of legacy and NEO network equipment and routing devices as required.
  • Maintenance, management, troubleshooting and configuration of Telephony VOIP systems as needed.
  • Continuous monitoring and updating of software/firmware security and standard version releases as required to ensure safe and secure networking as per best practices and vendor recommendations.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENT


  • Bachelor’s Degree required, with a focus in IT or technical domain preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of related IT networking experience.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols, VLAN-VRF, firewall filtering and security is strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading IT projects and teams to successful completion and applying appropriate project management skills/methodology.
  • Ability to collaborate with and advise business partners and management with respect to project scope, planning, costs and resources to deliver on project goals.
  • Proficiency in technical aspects of network provisioning and ISP WAN implementation including last mile issues and solutions.
  • Proficiency in implementing network subnets and WANs including setup and testing of routing protocols, VLANs, VRFs, switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with various technical configuration and office tools and applications in support of logging, monitoring, and reporting (SNMP, Syslog, SIEM, etc).
  • Proficiency in client support and applying technology to deliver business requirements
