Responsibilities
The Senior Manager – Advocacy & Market Insights leads CAPA’s advocacy, market insights and thought leadership agenda, strengthening CAPA’s collective regional voice and influence on issues affecting the accountancy profession.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the role monitors key developments affecting the profession, gathers and analyses members’ perspectives, develops CAPA’s regional positions, and identifies and leads strategic initiatives that create value for members.
The role plays a key part in strengthening CAPA’s relationships with development partners and other organisations to identify opportunities for collaboration across advocacy, research and insights, knowledge sharing, thought leadership and PAO development.
Through evidence-based advocacy, insights and strategic engagement, the role supports CAPA’s positioning as an influential regional voice for the accountancy profession.
Key Responsibilities
1. Advocacy and Regional Voice
• Lead in the implementation of CAPA’s advocacy and market insights framework.
• Analyse global and regional developments affecting the profession, working with members, key stakeholders to identify priority issues for CAPA.
• Develop and articulate CAPA regional responses and positions for international consultations and standard-setting developments.
• Initiative appropriate platforms such as surveys, roundtables and member consultations to gather perspectives and develop collective regional responses.
• Maintain an up to date understanding of members’ adoption of international standards, policy positions and perspectives on issues and emerging trends to inform CAPA’s advocacy and regional positions and strategic plans.
• Identify and pursue opportunities for CAPA to participate in and contribute regional perspective to relevant dialogues, forums and discussions.
2. Market Insights and Thought Leadership
• Monitor global and regional trends affecting PAOs and the accountancy profession, including Digitalisation & AI, sustainability, ethics, financial reporting & assurance, public sector, talent and future skills.
• Identify emerging trends, risks, opportunities, stakeholder priorities and assess their implications for CAPA and its members.
• Develop and deliver research, survey, benchmarking and comparative analysis to generate evidence and insights that support member and CAPA positions and views.
• Translate research and market insights into relevant thought leadership including articles, insights publications & reports.
3. Member Engagement and Knowledge Sharing
• Collaborate with members team to engage members to gather perspectives, share insights and strengthen knowledge exchange across the region.
• Work with team members to initiate and deliver briefings, webinars, forums and other knowledge sharing activities on relevant developments, market insights and emerging issues.
• Manage relevant advocacy and technical committees and working groups.
• Support CAPA’s capacity building programmes, webinars, forums, conferences through content development, topic recommendations and identification of relevant speakers and experts.
4. Strategic Support & Organisational Contribution
• Support CAPA to strengthen relationships with international standard setters, development partners and other related stakeholders. Identify opportunities for collaboration, advocacy and PAO development.
• Provide strategic advice and briefing materials to support CEO and Board in engagementswith regional and international stakeholders.
• Collaborate across the Executive office to deliver CAPA’s strategic priorities, programmes and events
• Contribute ideas, support and participate in CAPA events and programmes.
• Undertake any other responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Executive
The successful candidate should possess the following attributes and capabilities:
Experience
• Senior experience, with a minimum of 10 years in policy, advocacy, research, market insights, professional affairs, stakeholder engagement or a related area, preferably within a professional body, regulator, standard setter, development organisation or similar environment.
• Good understanding of the global accountancy ecosystem and international standard-setting environment and key issues affecting the accounting profession.
• Experience in developing advocacy positions, research, insights, or thought leadership and translating these into practical initiatives.
• Experience engaging with senior stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions or international networks will be an added advantage.
Expertise (Knowledge in the following areas would be advantageous)
• International Financial reporting, audit and assurance, ethics.
• Sustainability and ESG reporting, assurance.
• Public sector financial management.
• Digitalisation, AI and emerging technologies.

Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Public Policy, Business, International Relations, Communications or a related discipline.
• A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field would be an advantage but not essential.
• A professional accountancy qualification or familiarity with the accountancy profession, international standards and standard-setting environment would be an advantage.
• Equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered in place of specific academic qualifications.

• The role is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and candidates must be able to commute to the office.
