Key Responsibilities:

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

• Own the design, implementation, integration, validation, delivery, and sustaining support of assigned BMC modules or features.
• Convert product and customer requirements into high-level design, low-level design, implementation plans, test strategies, and technical documentation.
• Develop and maintain OpenBMC or embedded Linux firmware using C/C++, Python, shell, Yocto/BitBake, D-Bus, systemd, U-Boot, Linux kernel, and device-driver technologies as applicable.
• Lead assigned platform bring-up and integration activities involving BMC hardware, firmware, BIOS, CPLD, MCU, FPGA, network devices, sensors, storage, and power/thermal subsystems.
• Perform complex source-code analysis, issue triage, defect reproduction, root cause analysis, corrective action, and regression prevention.
• Design and maintain automated tests, diagnostics, failure-injection tests, and regression suites.
• Review code, designs, test plans, and technical analyses; ensure adherence to coding, security, quality, and release standards.
• Coordinate deliverables, dependencies, risks, and issue closure with BIOS, hardware, validation, manufacturing, thermal, mechanical, system, security, and program teams.
• Participate in customer technical discussions, requirement clarification, issue analysis, and escalation resolution.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and knowledge sharing to engineers.
• Contribute to upstream OpenBMC or open-source projects when required by product strategy and contribution policy.
• Recommend improvements to architecture, build flow, automation, validation, release quality, and team efficiency.

Qualifications

• Strong C/C++ development and code-tracing skills.
• Solid understanding of Linux operation, embedded Linux applications, kernel concepts, IPC, boot flow, U-Boot, device drivers, and system services.
• Hands-on knowledge of BMC functions including IPMI messaging, SDR, SEL, FRU, SOL, IPMB, LAN, KCS, event log, PEF, DCMI, platform monitoring, and firmware update.
• Practical experience with Redfish, PLDM, MCTP, D-Bus, WebUI, or equivalent manageability mechanisms.
• Working knowledge of common buses and debug interfaces including I2C, IPMB, PMBus, SPI, UART, JTAG, GPIO, LPC, and eSPI.
• Experience with board bring-up and BMC-related hardware such as ARM SoCs, ASPEED AST2500/AST2600 or equivalent, hardware monitors, Super I/O, NC-SI NIC, PHY, sensors, CPLD, and MCU.
• Experience with Git workflows, code review, CI pipelines, Yocto/BitBake, Python, and shell scripting.
• Understanding of server architecture and at least one complete server project lifecycle is preferred.
• Knowledge of storage, networking, PCIe, SCSI/SES, RAID, SAS/SATA, SSD/SMART, HBA, TCP/UDP, or related technologies is preferred.
• Familiarity with firmware security, secure boot, RoT, PFR/eRoT, TPM, or SPDM is preferred.

Typical Experience

• Typically 5 to 8 years of embedded firmware, BMC, OpenBMC, Linux system software, server manageability, or related development experience.
• Demonstrated ownership of a substantial feature or module and participation in at least one complete product lifecycle are preferred.

Physical Demands

• Duties are primarily performed in a normal office and engineering laboratory environment.
• Work may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on source code, logs, schematics, specifications, and test data.
• Occasional handling of development platforms and use of debug tools may be required under established safety procedures.
• Occasional travel, off-hours collaboration, or critical project support may be required, subject to company policy and applicable law.
