Job Description
Responsibilities
Our client is an established, high-growth industrial packaging solutions enterprise specializing in customized heavy-duty corrugated cartons, specialized foam protective cushioning systems, and industrial timber packaging solutions. Operating high-capacity manufacturing operations in Selangor, they engineer high-reliability protective packaging for top-tier electronics, manufacturing, logistics, and industrial B2B clients across Malaysia. To support their expanding product development pipeline and customer solution engineering, they are seeking a detail-oriented Packaging Development Executive.
The Packaging Development Executive is responsible for driving the technical design, prototype creation, testing, and validation of new packaging solutions. Reporting directly to the Quality & Process Manager, this role bridges customer requirements with factory execution by conducting physical laboratory testing (compression, bursting, grammage), transit performance validations (ISTA/ASTM), and tooling verification, while driving Cost Down Value Engineering (CDVE) projects to optimize material efficiency.
1. Packaging Design, Prototype & Value Engineering
Design Development: Lead the technical design and structural development of new packaging solutions, conducting design assessments, 2D/3D layout reviews, and validation checks.
Sample & Mock-Up Creation: Prepare and assemble precise packaging mock-ups and prototypes for internal validation trials and customer design reviews.
Cost Down Value Engineering (CDVE): Participate in CDVE assignments to optimize raw material usage, improve stackability, and reduce unit packaging costs without compromising structural integrity.
Design Records: Maintain structured technical documentation, including CAD/design drawings, revision logs, specification sheets, and project development histories.
2. Physical Laboratory & Transit Performance Testing
Laboratory Testing: Perform standardized physical laboratory tests on paperboard, corrugated boards, and cushioning materials—including Box Compression Testing (BCT), bursting strength, and grammage checks.
Transit Validation: Coordinate and execute transit packaging stress tests in alignment with international standards (such as ISTA, ASTM, and ISO) or customer-specific vibration/drop protocols.
Tooling Verification: Inspect and verify printing blocks, die-cut moulds, and structural tooling samples prior to pilot production runs.
3. Cross-Functional Coordination & Customer Service Support
Sample Fulfilment: Partner closely with Production and Sales teams to schedule, prepare, and deliver validated sample kits to clients within agreed timelines.
Technical Consultation: Participate in technical meetings with clients and raw material suppliers to clarify specifications, review failure analyses, and propose structural improvements.
R&D Synergy: Collaborate with internal Quality and R&D teams during new material trial runs and process validations.
Education & Technical Expertise
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Industrial Design, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.
Professional Experience: 1 to 2 years of active experience in packaging design, packaging engineering, product development, or quality assurance within a manufacturing environment. High-potential candidates with strong packaging project exposure during studies are welcome to apply.
Domain Knowledge: Practical understanding of corrugated paperboard, foam cushioning, or wooden industrial packaging systems.
Testing Standards: Basic understanding of physical packaging lab tests (compression, bursting strength, grammage) and international transit testing frameworks (ISTA, ASTM, ISO) is highly advantageous.
Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings; proficient with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Personal & Communication Attributes
Language Capability: Proficiency in written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia.
Attributes: High attention to detail, strong analytical problem-solving capability, and excellent interpersonal skills to interface between sales leads, production teams, and external clients.
Mobility: Must possess own transport for daily commuting to the Telok Gong facility.
