Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Fellow for the project entitled “Normal and cancer organoids within the context of colorectal cancer” within the Department of Surgery, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The Department of Surgery is a dynamic department heavily involved in research and education, with areas of interest including surgical oncology and therapeutics aimed at the targeted therapy of various cancers, including colorectal cancer. Appointments will be made on a 1-year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension. 

Purpose of the post

The Research Fellow will plan and conduct experiments with a heavy emphasis on organoid culture. Other responsibilities include assisting the PI with laboratory administrative duties. The candidate must work closely with the existing group members and exhibit a collaborative team spirit.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Fellow must be experienced in human organoid culture and should show independence as a researcher through a previous first author publication. Competence in bioinformatics would be an additional advantage but is not a pre-requisite. The post-doctoral researcher must also have effective skills as a leader within the lab, forming an important conduit between the PI and the research assistants.

 The responsibilities of the Research Fellow will be to: 

  1. Work on his/her primary project. Write original research articles/reviews, write grants/reports, prepare presentation materials and disseminate findings
  2. Supervise other projects within the laboratory; 
  1. Keep an accurate and contemporaneous log of the experimental procedures attempted as part of the project; 
  1. Ensure regular upkeep of laboratory stock lists and equipment; 
  1. Work towards the publication of experimental work in scientific journals; 
  1. Maintain a safe working environment; 
  1. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.  

Qualifications

1.Have a PhD in a related field

2.Demonstrate previous experience with organoid work

3.Demonstrated the ability to perform high caliber research

4.Possess a first author publication be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, attention to detail;
