Responsibilities
H3 Zoom develops building inspection and compliance software for the built environment. We are seeking a hands-on technical lead to guide our application architecture, own reliable delivery of customer solutions, and help engineers build and operate our production products.
Role summary
You will lead the design, development, integration, and operation of H3Zoom’s web applications and customer-facing solutions. You will set technical direction across frontend, backend, real-time services, and cloud infrastructure while contributing code to the most important or complex work. Working with product, AI and data engineering, R&D, field operations, and customer-facing teams, you will turn inspection workflows into secure, usable, maintainable software. You will guide engineers and external delivery partners as the team grows.
Key responsibilities
Own application architecture and technical roadmaps for Facade Inspector, Site-Check, and related solutions; make and document pragmatic tradeoffs on scalability, maintainability, security, and cost.
Lead delivery from discovery and solution design through implementation, testing, release, and production support; break requirements into clear milestones and coordinate dependencies across teams.
Contribute hands-on to our React frontend, Django and Django Channels backend, Node/Express services, APIs, WebSocket features, and asynchronous processing with Celery.
Design integrations for drone and 360 imagery, geospatial maps, 3D/BIM viewing, Autodesk Platform Services, and other external services where customer workflows require them.
Establish engineering practices for Git, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, incident response, documentation, and reproducible infrastructure.
Own the technical health of the H3 Zoom application ecosystem, including access control, secrets, deployment pipelines, performance, and availability.
Mentor engineers through design reviews, pairing, feedback, and clear standards; assess technical work by vendors and partners when needed.
Work directly with stakeholders to scope feasible solutions, explain technical tradeoffs, and support customer implementation and issue resolution.
Technology environment
React, JavaScript, Django, Django REST Framework, Django Channels/ASGI, Python, Node.js/Express, Celery, Redis, Nginx, and AWS (EC2, ALB, S3, CloudFront, ACM, IAM, VPC, and Route 53). Product integrations include OpenLayers, three.js, Autodesk Platform Services, Sketchfab, Stripe, and Google Maps. This describes the current environment; the lead will help determine its evolution.
What you bring
Substantial experience building and operating production web applications across frontend, backend, APIs, and cloud services, with strong hands-on React and Python/Django capability.
Experience leading technical design and delivery, reviewing code, mentoring engineers, and aligning technical decisions with product and customer needs.
Practical AWS and DevOps experience, including IAM and network security, deployment automation, monitoring, and incident troubleshooting.
Ability to design secure integrations and data flows, manage technical debt, and improve reliability without blocking delivery.
Clear communication with technical and nontechnical stakeholders, including the ability to explain priorities and tradeoffs in plain language.
Useful additional experience
Django Channels and WebSockets; Celery and Redis; Node.js; WebGL or three.js; geospatial applications; CAD/BIM formats and Autodesk Platform Services; drone imagery workflows; Terraform or CloudFormation; GitHub Actions with OIDC; Docker; and payment integrations.
