About the Role

The Project Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight for large-scale IT projects and programs within the transportation domain, ensuring successful delivery of complex, multi-stakeholder projects and driving project governance, financial performance, risk management, and client satisfaction while aligning delivery with business objectives.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic & Leadership Responsibilities

• Provide overall direction and leadership for multiple large and complex IT projects in the transportation sector (e.g., traffic management systems, fare collection, fleet management, logistics platforms, ITS, mobility solutions).
• Define and implement project delivery strategies aligned with organizational goals and client requirements.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for critical project issues, risks, and stakeholder concerns.
• Mentor and lead Project Managers, Program Managers, and cross-functional teams.

2. Project & Program Governance

• Establish and enforce project governance frameworks, standards, and best practices.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
• Oversee project planning, execution, monitoring, and closure activities.
• Review and approve project plans, schedules, budgets, and change requests.

3. Client & Stakeholder Management

• Act as the senior point of contact for clients, government bodies, transport authorities, and key partners.
• Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with stakeholders.
• Lead executive-level project reviews, steering committee meetings, and progress presentations.
• Manage contract obligations, SLAs, and client expectations.

4. Financial & Commercial Management

• Own project and program P&L, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
• Ensure effective resource utilization and margin optimization.
• Support business development activities, including proposal reviews, estimations, and bid responses.
• Identify opportunities for project extensions, upselling, and cross-selling.

5. Risk, Quality & Compliance

• Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and dependencies.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and client policies (especially in public transportation and government projects).
• Drive quality assurance processes and continuous improvement initiatives.

6. Technology & Domain Alignment

• Ensure alignment between business objectives and technology solutions.
• Collaborate with architects, engineering teams, and domain experts to ensure solution feasibility and scalability.
• Stay informed on emerging technologies and trends in transportation IT and digital mobility solutions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Master’s degree (MBA, MSc, or equivalent) is preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in IT project and program management.
• At least 5+ years in a senior leadership role (Project Director / Program Director / Delivery Head).
• Proven experience delivering large-scale IT projects in the transportation, mobility, logistics, or infrastructure domain.
• Experience working with public sector clients, transport authorities, or regulated environments is highly desirable.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Deep understanding of SDLC, Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery models.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Strong financial acumen and contract management experience.
• Ability to manage complex, multi-vendor and multi-location programs.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
• PMP, PgMP, PRINCE2, SAFe, or equivalent project/program management certifications.
