Unified Communications Engineer (Cisco Voice / Collaboration)

About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Unified Communications Engineer to support and maintain enterprise voice, video and collaboration platforms.
The successful candidate should have solid experience with Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) and SIP/VoIP technologies. Experience with UCCX, Webex, Cisco Unity Connection, Expressway or CUBE would be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, maintain and troubleshoot Cisco CUCM and related voice infrastructure.
- Configure users, extensions, IP phones, device pools, hunt groups and calling features.
- Support call routing components such as partitions, Calling Search Spaces, route patterns, translation patterns and SIP trunks.
- Diagnose voice and video issues, including registration failures, one-way audio, dropped calls, call-quality problems and routing failures.
- Support SIP-based integrations, voice gateways, Session Border Controllers and telecommunications service providers.
- Monitor platform availability, capacity, alarms and service health.
- Perform system upgrades, patching, backups and routine maintenance.
- Support Cisco collaboration endpoints, meeting-room systems and video-conferencing services.
- Work with network, security, application and vendor teams to resolve incidents.
- Manage incidents, service requests and changes in accordance with ITIL processes and service-level agreements.
- Prepare technical documentation, operational procedures and root-cause analysis reports.
- Participate in UC migration, deployment and improvement projects.
Essential Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Engineering or a related discipline.
- At least three years of relevant experience supporting enterprise voice, VoIP or unified communications environments.
- Hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting Cisco CUCM.
- Good understanding of SIP, RTP, dial plans, codecs and call flows.
- Experience troubleshooting IP phone registration, call routing and voice-quality issues.
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP and QoS.
- Familiarity with troubleshooting or monitoring tools such as RTMT, Wireshark, packet captures or SIP traces.
- Ability to independently manage incidents and work with internal teams and external vendors.
- Good communication, documentation and stakeholder-management skills.
Preferred Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
- Cisco UCCX, including agents, skills, CSQs, Finesse, applications, triggers or scripts.
- Webex Control Hub, Webex Calling or Webex Meetings.
- Cisco Unity Connection and voicemail services.
- Cisco Expressway, Mobile and Remote Access or B2B calling.
- Cisco CUBE, voice gateways or Session Border Controllers.
- Cisco Meeting Server, Room Kits, codecs or video endpoints.
- Microsoft Teams Phone, Direct Routing or AudioCodes SBC.
- Enterprise environments supporting multiple sites or large numbers of users.
- UC migration, upgrade or transformation projects.
- Cisco certifications such as CCNA or CCNP Collaboration.
Candidate Profile
This position is suitable for a practical L2 or junior L3 engineer who enjoys hands-on administration and troubleshooting. Candidates do not need experience across every Cisco collaboration product, but strong CUCM and SIP/VoIP fundamentals are essential.
