The National Institute of Early Childhood Development (NIEC) is the national training institute for early childhood (EC) educators. We were set up by the Ministry of Education in 2019 as part of the Government’s efforts to uplift the EC profession, and raise the quality of early childhood care and education in Singapore.

Our Headquarters is located in the National Institute of Education (NIE) within Nanyang Technological University (NTU), while our courses are conducted at our 4 campuses; NIEC (City) Campus, NIEC (Institute of Technical Education) Campus, NIEC (Ngee Ann Polytechnic) Campus and NIEC (Temasek Polytechnic) Campus.

We provide a range of courses for EC educators at every stage of their career, whether it is foundational training for post-secondary students and mid-careerists joining the sector, or post-diplomas and short courses for existing educators looking to deepen and upgrade their skills.

The NIEC faculty – our “teachers of teachers” – enjoy continuous development through opportunities to deepen their subject mastery and pedagogical skills. We also work closely with the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) and key industry partners to stay close to the ground and ensure that our training meets the sector’s evolving needs.
