Responsibilities
Name of Authority: Northland Secondary School
Contract Period: From 4 Jan 2027 to 31 Oct 2027 (9 months excluding June).
Personnel to be deployed at the following hours:
• Mondays to Thursdays: 7:30am to 4:30pm, inclusive of 1hr lunch break
• Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays
Requirements:
The candidate shall have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counselling with relevant professional counselling qualifications.
• Relevant experience in counselling and/or social work, preferably with adolescents or young people in a school or community settings.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with students, parents and stakeholders.
• Strong assessment and case management skills, including the ability to identify students’ needs, assess risks, formulate appropriate interventions, and monitor their progress.
• Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively with teachers, school leaders, parents and external agencies as part of a multi-disciplinary support network.
• A strong team player who is organised, meticulous and able to manage multiple cases and competing priorities effectively.
• Demonstrates sound professional judgement, discretion and sensitivity when handling confidential and/or sensitive student matters.
Job Scopes:
The Services required are set out as follows:
Responsive Services
• Conducting individual and group counselling to students.
• Conference with staff, parents and external professionals and agencies on students being counselled, and conduct home visits where necessary.
• Look into the referral of students and their families to community resources or external professionals, where needed.
• Provide direct crisis intervention and follow up to students affected by critical events.
• Maintain case consultation records and proper documentation.
Systems Support
• Advice and provide regular updates to school management on the progress of students being seen for counselling.
• Network with relevant external professionals and community agencies.
• Provide consultation as well as planning and conducting training for staff and parents on pertinent mental health issues and skills for first-line intervention and support.
Preventive Programmes
• Develop and conduct small and large group psycho-educational sessions for students on mental health issues and healthy coping strategies.
• Develop and make mental health resources available for students, parents and staff.
• Assist in implementing preventive programmes that promote mental well-being and healthy family relationships.
