Job Summary
IAIC seeks savvy scientists skilled in shaping scalable software solutions for sustainable systems and simulations. The successful candidate will work with a team of scientists and engineers to model, simulate, optimise and analyse electrical power and energy systems to address real-world challenges from government and industry. This role is expected to contribute to research and development of reusable, specialised software solutions that advance intelligence and computational decision-making for Singapore’s net-zero ambitions, transport electrification, and modernised power grid management.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, build and validate physics-based and data-driven computational models for optimal power generation planning and the management of transmission and distribution networks (such as power-flow, state estimation, short-circuit, grid connection and capacity evaluation, dynamic/stability, grid inertia, reliability and resilience analyses).
- Design and prototype digital-twin capabilities for distributed energy resources (photovoltaic systems, electric vehicle charging systems, buildings, energy storage systems, district cooling systems, data centers, fuel cells), microgrids and utility infrastructure, suitable for AI-enabled applications and LLM-integrated agentic workflows.
- Collaborate with an agile team to design, develop and deploy functional, performant, reusable, scalable and maintainable software solutions for power system planning and operational applications using open-source and permissive software libraries.
- Support and contribute to research proposals, technical reports, intellectual property disclosures, publications and collaborative projects with government, industry and academic partners.
Job Requirements
- PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) degree in electrical/power engineering, computer science, operations research, or related fields, with a strong background in power and energy systems (modelling, analysis, simulation and mathematical optimization).
- Highly proficient in Python3 and/or C/C++ programming.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in using AI-assisted productivity tools and copilots.
- Ability to adapt and work individually as well as in a team.
- Good-to-Have: Demonstrable research/project experience using relevant open-source libraries and/or commercial software for power systems, and experience working on large-scale real-world datasets.
- Good-to-Have: Familiarity with version control (Git), SQL/NoSQL databases, client-server architectures, REST APIs, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js), and software packaging and containerization technologies.
