Responsibilities
Role Overview
The Current-State Analysis Lead is responsible for establishing and documenting the actual behavior, logic, integrations, and data flows of existing systems, particularly where source code, documentation, or architectural records are incomplete, outdated, or unavailable. The role utilizes analytical techniques, reverse engineering, black-box analysis, and AI-assisted tooling to reconstruct system behavior and produce reliable documentation to support modernization and transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead current-state analysis activities for legacy, undocumented, closed-source, or highly complex systems.
Analyze existing applications, platforms, interfaces, services, and integrations to determine actual operational behavior and business logic.
Perform black-box behavioural analysis using transaction logs, network traffic, system outputs, user journeys, and production evidence.
Reconstruct functional workflows, business rules, API contracts, system dependencies, and integration patterns from observed behaviour.
Utilize AI-assisted analysis tools, machine learning techniques, pattern recognition, and automation to accelerate system understanding.
Perform application architecture recovery and reverse engineering where source code or documentation is unavailable or incomplete.
Analyze discrepancies between documented requirements, specifications, and actual production behaviour.
Establish authoritative current-state baselines for modernization, migration, replacement, or transformation programs.
Document recovered business rules, data flows, integration points, assumptions, constraints, and technical findings.
Conduct impact assessments and identify risks associated with undocumented or hidden system behaviours.
Work closely with architects, business analysts, developers, quality engineers, and stakeholders to validate findings.
Produce detailed analysis reports, evidence repositories, technical documentation, and traceability artefacts.
Support modernization initiatives by providing verified current-state understanding and functional baselines.
Lead workshops, stakeholder interviews, and validation sessions to resolve functional uncertainties and system ambiguities.
Mentor analysts and technical teams in system analysis, discovery techniques, and behavioural modelling practices.
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum
10 years of experience
in system analysis, software engineering, solution architecture, application modernization, or related disciplines.
Strong experience in current-state assessment and system discovery activities.
Proven experience analyzing complex enterprise systems with limited or missing documentation.
Expertise in black-box behavioural analysis and reverse-engineering techniques.
Strong understanding of software architecture, application integrations, APIs, databases, and enterprise systems.
Experience extracting business rules, workflows, and technical requirements from existing systems.
Ability to perform application architecture recovery and dependency analysis.
Experience with automation, testing frameworks, and verification techniques.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
Excellent documentation and technical writing skills.
Strong communication and stakeholder management experience.
Preferred Skills
Experience utilizing AI, machine learning, pattern recognition, or data analytics tools to support system discovery and analysis.
Experience reconstructing API specifications and integration contracts.
Knowledge of static code analysis, dependency mapping, and architecture recovery tools.
Experience with microservices, cloud-native applications, and enterprise modernization programs.
Familiarity with behavioural verification, system validation, and migration assurance practices.
Experience supporting government, healthcare, financial services, transportation, or other large-scale enterprise environments.
Preferred Certifications
AWS Certified Machine Learning – Specialty
IREB Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering (CPRE)
ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL)
TOGAF, CBAP, or equivalent architecture/business analysis certifications (preferred)
