Full Time Senior Underwriter - Construction Asia Jobs, in Gravitas Recruitment Group (Global) Ltd - Maukerja

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Underwriter specialising in Construction to join our insurance client in Singapore. The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting complex construction risks across the Asia region, maintaining profitability, and ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines and policies.

This is an exceptional opportunity to apply advanced technical knowledge and strategic acumen to support a broad range of construction insurance products, including civil engineering, infrastructure, and property development within a dynamic and growing market.

In this role, you will assess complex submissions, determine coverage and pricing, and negotiate policy terms with brokers and clients. You will collaborate with legal, claims, actuarial and reinsurance departments to evaluate risk and set terms appropriately. Furthermore, you will contribute to the development of new products and the refinement of underwriting strategies by analysing emerging risks and market trends across the region.

Key responsibilities include:

• Evaluating and underwriting major construction risks in compliance with internal guidelines
• Maintaining and growing a profitable construction portfolio across Asia
• Developing strong broker and client relationships through regular engagement and excellent service
• Providing technical guidance to junior underwriters and supporting training initiatives
• Monitoring industry trends and emerging risks to inform underwriting strategy
• Contributing to product development and regional business planning initiatives

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in insurance, engineering, finance or a related discipline
• A minimum of 8 years’ underwriting experience, with at least 5 years in construction insurance
• Detailed understanding of construction and engineering insurance, including risk assessment and policy wording
• Experience underwriting major infrastructure or civil projects in Asia is strongly preferred
• Familiarity with reinsurance structures, insurance law, and regulatory requirements in the Asia Pacific region
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to negotiate complex deals confidently
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English; additional Asian language proficiency is a plus
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multicultural team environment
