Role Description
The Business Development Manager is a full time, on site role based in WP. Kuala Lumpur. The role is responsible for growing profitable, repeat business for Misarma Enterprise Sdn Bhd across timber and wood products, wooden packaging, and pest control and fumigation services. The role identifies and qualifies customers, develops key accounts, prepares commercial proposals, negotiates contracts and coordinates the handover of confirmed orders to operations. The Manager works with sourcing, technical, operations and finance teams to ensure that customer requirements can be delivered at an approved gross margin and with manageable payment and working capital terms. Success is measured by qualified opportunities converted into business, realized gross profit, repeat orders and collections. The role also helps MESB strengthen its market position by developing customer relationships and solutions that extend beyond one-off timber transactions.
Primary Accoutanbilities
The Business Development Manager is accountable for developing profitable, repeat business for Misarma Enterprise Sdn Bhd across its four commercial business engines: Log and Timber, Wood Products and Panels, Wooden Packaging, and Pest Control and Fumigation.
- Develop qualified business opportunities. Identify target customers, confirm their requirements and purchasing plans, and maintain a pipeline by business engine, market and expected contract value.
- Grow and retain key accounts. Build direct customer relationships, secure repeat orders and renewals, and develop opportunities that extend beyond one-off timber transactions.
- Protect gross profit. Prepare commercially sound proposals with sourcing, operations and technical teams. Validate costs, specifications, capacity and delivery terms before quotation, and track realized gross profit against the approved margin.
- Protect cash and working capital. Assess payment terms and credit exposure with Finance. Follow up on collections and avoid committing MESB to inventory or supplier payments without an approved transaction structure.
- Convert opportunities into executable contracts. Negotiate within delegated authority and hand over confirmed orders with complete specifications, pricing assumptions, delivery commitments and customer requirements.
- Strengthen MESB’s strategic position. Develop customers and commercial arrangements that support reliable supply, value-added wood products, packaging solutions and recurring service contracts.
- Maintain commercial discipline. Keep accurate pipeline and account records, report forecasts and bid outcomes, and escalate margin, collection, delivery or compliance risks promptly.
Qualifications
- Strong business development and sales skills, including lead generation, pipeline management, and deal negotiation.
- Experience in client relationship management, with the ability to build trust, understand client requirements, and provide responsive service.
- Knowledge of the marine, shipping, or offshore services industry, or related sectors, with the ability to learn technical product details quickly.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities, including drafting proposals, delivering pitches, and engaging with stakeholders at multiple levels.
- Analytical and strategic thinking skills, including market research, competitive analysis, and performance reporting.
- Proficiency in basic office and productivity software (e.g., spreadsheets, presentations, CRM tools) and comfort learning new digital tools.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams on-site.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Management, or a related field; equivalent experience in business development will also be considered.
- Prior experience in a business development, sales, or account management role, preferably within B2B environments.
